Origin: A Thousand Years of Legend and Contemporary Rebirth

Furong Ancient Town

The Name of Immortal Fate-The Legend of Hu Zhao
The name "Wangxian" originates from an ancient anecdote from the Eastern Han Dynasty. The renowned scholar Hu Zhao (teacher of Sima Yi) retreated to this mountain to escape worldly strife, where he lived in seclusion and practiced Daoism. His family would wait daily in the valley, eagerly awaiting his return. Hu Zhao eventually passed away peacefully here, and the legend of his ascension to immortality spread far and wide, giving the place its name "Wangxian". The valley's nine massive boulders, each resembling a reclining ox, earned it the nickname "Nine Ox Grand Canyon"

The Road of Rebirth-From Wounded to Paradise
The modern narrative of Wangxian Valley is a profound epic of ecological restoration and cultural tourism revitalization.
-The Industrial Tragedy (Before 2007): As a granite slab production base, 179 production lines caused the stream to become murky and exposed mountainous terrain.
-Awakening and Transformation (After 2007): The industry was halted, leaving behind abandoned mine pits and cliffs.
-Craftsmanship Revival (2017-2020): Guided by the philosophy of 'preserving the original state and respecting nature,' we reconstructed the Gan family's traditional dwellings on the ruins, restored aquatic ecosystems, and increased forest coverage to 81%.
-A stunning debut (2020-present): In 2023, it welcomed over 1.53 million visitors, becoming a vivid example of the 'lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets' philosophy.

Nature Creation-The Breathing and Pulse of the Canyon
The natural landscape of Wangxian Valley is an eternal dance of water, stone and light.
The Dynamic Water: The Life Vein of the Canyon
-Wangxian Waterfall: As the valley's crown jewel, its allure lies in multidimensional experiences. From afar, a hundred-foot white ribbon tears through emerald cliffs with majestic grandeur; up close, one must navigate swirling mist, where negative oxygen ions hit the face and thunderous sounds resonate in the chest. The prime viewing window is after rain when the sky clears, with abundant water flow. Between 3-5 PM, slanting sunlight creates perfect conditions to witness the rare double rainbow spectacle before the waterfall.
-Triple Water: This is a rhythmic musical passage of the stream. The water cascades down three natural terraces along the granite riverbed, creating three distinct sections with varying 'sound, form, and momentum': the upper section is as clear as a bell, the middle section flows swiftly like a melody, and the lower section spreads wide like a song. Visitors can stroll along the waterside boardwalk, experiencing the changing sounds with each step.
-Rainbow Waterfall and Guanyin Waterfall: The Rainbow Waterfall is a natural optical wonder, often visible on sunny afternoons. Guanyin Waterfall, meanwhile, splits into two symmetrical streams due to its rocky cliff, resembling a serene water bottle cascading down—a scene imbued with Zen serenity. Photography tip: Use a slow shutter speed (with a tripod) to transform the waterfall into a dreamlike mist, creating a mesmerizing effect.
Rough Stone: Silent History and Imaginary Canvas
-Three Pots (Pot Hole Cluster): This geological wonder serves as a living textbook. Over millennia, swift currents have eroded and sculpted three circular pools several meters deep into the granite riverbed, their waters a sapphire-green depth. Local folklore claims 'three or two floral threads (extremely fine silk threads) cannot reach the bottom,' adding to their mystique.
-The Mysterious Stone Beach and Nine Oxen Canyon: Wandering along the stream feels like stepping into an open-air museum of bizarre rocks. Weathered and eroded by water, the rocks take on myriad forms—some resembling a sleeping water buffalo (a nod to the "Nine Oxen" legend), others like a giant ship sailing out to sea, and even more whimsical ones like a celestial chess player or a divine turtle exploring the ocean. This is not just a geological classroom but also an ideal spot for families to spark their imagination about nature.
Green of the Secret Realm: A Forest Oxygen Chamber That Breathing
With 81% forest coverage, the canyon forms a complete subtropical ecosystem. Hikers can admire ancient trees like Taxus chinensis and Camphor trees, while wild azaleas and orchids dot the landscape during spring and summer. This hidden gem for birdwatchers often reveals rare species such as the white pheasant and Chinese magpie. Morning strolls through the misty woods, where light and shadow dance, offer the perfect moment for forest bathing—a meditative experience that refreshes both body and soul.
The natural scenery of Wangxian Valley is not only for "viewing", but also for "listening" and "feeling". The valley itself is a huge natural amplifier and color palette.

Humanistic Craftsmanship-The Civilization Hanging on the Cliff
The architecture here is not only a dwelling, but also an art that coexists with the cliffs.
-Cliffside Homestay (White Crane Cliff): The iconic landmark of Wangxian Valley. Twelve glass-enclosed rooms seem to float above the 110-meter-high cliff, their lights glowing at night like stars cascading from the heavens. Here, every window opens to a sea of clouds and a deep valley, offering the ultimate experience of 'living in the scenery.'
-Yanpu Old Street: This area has been restored to its Song Dynasty 'grass market' appearance. Among the bluestone paths, rammed earth walls, and carved wooden doors, you'll find intangible cultural heritage workshops like brown sugar, tofu, and bamboo weaving. Visitors can witness traditional craftsmanship firsthand and savor freshly steamed delicacies.
-Lan Yue Bridge and Bai Ge Bridge: These two historic bridges offer perfect vantage points for panoramic canyon photography. Particularly, Lan Yue Bridge features 108 luminous points that form the Big Dipper constellation at night, creating a captivating contrast with its water reflections.
-Hu Clan Ancestral Hall and Tianxin Chan Temple: Every brick and beam embodies the essence of Jiangxi-style architecture, preserving ancestral heritage and Buddhist philosophy, offering a serene retreat amidst the valley's hustle and bustle.

> Photography Tips:
The best panoramic view is from Baige Bridge, offering a sweeping panorama of the cliffside homestay, Lanyue Bridge, and the ancient village.
Lan Yue Bridge is ideal for capturing the panoramic view of Wangxian Waterfall, along with the intricate details and reflections of the cliffside architecture.
Three pots can capture the stillness of water flowing like silk into the deep pool.
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) can capture epic aerial perspectives with a bird's-eye view.

Travel Guide: Transportation, Accommodation and Season

Furong Ancient Town

How to Get There: A Seamless Connection Guide
There is no direct airport or high-speed rail station to Wangxiangu; Shangrao City is the only transit hub.
- For travelers departing from all over the country, we recommend taking the high-speed train to Shangrao Station. Travel tip: We recommend taking the "Yanyun" scenic area shuttle bus after exiting the station (30 yuan/person, frequent departures).
- From downtown Shangrao, we recommend driving or taking a taxi. The journey takes about 1 hour. Travel tip: Navigate to "Wangxiangu Visitor Center". Parking is free.
- Starting from the surrounding attractions, it is recommended to hire a car/drive yourself. Trip duration: Huangshan (4h) / Jingdezhen (3h) / Wuyuan (2h). Travel tips: Suitable for visiting in a series.

Important return trip reminder: If you plan to see the night view, please note the last direct bus departure (usually at 21:45). If you miss it, you can choose to book a pick-up service or contact your hotel to assist with vehicle arrangements, but the cost will be higher.

Best time to visit
Wangxian Valley is beautiful in all four seasons, but each season has its own unique charm. The best time to visit is in spring and autumn.
- Spring and autumn (March-May, September-November): Pleasant climate and best scenery. Rhododendrons bloom all over the mountains in spring, and the forests are ablaze with color in autumn.
- Summer retreat season (June-August): The valley is cool and suitable for rafting. However, be prepared for rain and mosquitoes.
- Quiet Winter Season (December-February): Fewer tourists, picturesque snowscapes, and good value accommodations. Some outdoor activities may be closed.

Accommodation Options
- Within the scenic area (preferred):
1. Cliffside B&B Cluster:
Experience: Stay in the heart of the landscape and enjoy the best viewing times (early morning and late at night).
Disadvantages: High price, extremely difficult to book, luggage handling requires the use of a cable car (with staff assistance).
Suitable for: travelers seeking the ultimate experience, anniversary trips, and those with a sufficient budget.
2. Xiansu/Yangxian Village:
Experience: High cost performance, consistent style, quiet and comfortable, within walking distance of the core area.
Suitable for: Most tourists who want convenient travel and value cost-effectiveness.
- Accommodation outside the scenic area (flexible and economical option)
1. Wangxian Township Homestay: Affordable prices and a more authentic rural experience, but requires daily round trip to the scenic area (about 10 minutes by car).
2. Hotels in Shangrao city: A wide range of options are available, from budget to five-star hotels, suitable for tourists who plan to visit other attractions in Shangrao or have higher requirements for accommodation, but the daily commute time is about 1.5 hours.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
