Q & A

Do I need to book Huangshan tickets in advance, and what are the ticket prices?
Yes – Huangshan no longer sells tickets on-site. All visitors must book via the “Huangshan Tourism Official Platform” WeChat mini-program 3–7 days in advance, selecting a specific entry time slot and direction. The regular-season ticket is 190 RMB (valid for 3 days), while the winter ticket (December–January) is 150 RMB. Multiple entry requires re-booking through the official platform after first use.
How much do the Huangshan cable cars cost, and what are the operating hours?
Cable car prices vary by route: Yungu and Taiping are 80 RMB in peak season and 65 RMB in winter; the Eastern route is 125 RMB in peak season. Operating hours: regular season around 7:00 AM – 5:10 PM, extended to 6:30 AM – 5:40 PM on weekends and holidays; winter season generally 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Check the official platform for the most current schedule.
Is Hongcun free to enter, and what are the opening hours?
Hongcun is not free. Entry is around 94–104 RMB, and the ticket is valid for 3 days with unlimited re-entry. The village is open 24 hours, though indoor attractions like Chengzhi Hall generally operate 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM. The best times for photos are early morning (6:00–7:30 AM) and late afternoon (4:00–5:30 PM) when the light is soft.
What is the difference between Hongcun and Huangling – which one is better?
They are different experiences. Hongcun is a classic Huizhou village with tranquil water reflections and centuries-old architecture – better for a slow, immersive stay. Huangling is a mountainside village known for its terraced fields and the “sun-drying” harvest display – more visually striking and photographic, especially in autumn. If you have time, both are worth visiting; if you must choose, Hongcun suits history lovers, while Huangling suits photographers.
