Dounan Flower Market, located in Dounan Street, Chenggong District, Kunming City, Yunnan Province, is a "flower planet" covering an area of over 100 acres. The Blooming of Flower Fields - Agricultural Transformation by Dianchi Lake
The story of Dounan began in the early 1980s. Thanks to Kunming's "spring like climate throughout the year" and the fertile land by the Dianchi Lake, a farmer named Hua Zhongyi planted his first sword orchid in his vegetable field and successfully sold it. This is not just a successful planting, but more like a stone thrown into the lake, causing ripples layer by layer. More and more villagers are following suit and switching from grain crops to flower cultivation, marking the beginning of the "flower economy". Dounan, from an unknown village, has gradually become a nationally renowned flower producing area.

The coronation ceremony of the Asian Flower Capital - from the fields to the international hub
The modern story of Dounan is a history of industrial evolution from a spontaneous market to a modern international hub.
During the era of roadside markets (1990s), flower farmers set up stalls along the streets, forming a prosperous and primitive trading scene of "using roads as the market". The air is filled with soil and floral fragrance, carrying the initial dream of wealth amidst the noise.
Venue and Specialization (1999): The first professional flower trading market was built, bidding farewell to the sun and rain and opening a new chapter in standardized management. Subsequently, the establishment of Kunming International Flower Auction and Trading Center (KIFA) introduced an advanced Dutch style price reduction auction system, bringing Dounan's trading efficiency in line with international standards.
Rise of Empire (2010 present): Today's Dounan Flower Market is a complex flower industry park covering an area of 100 acres. There are 117 major categories and over 1600 varieties of fresh cut flowers listed daily, with a daily trading volume of tens of millions of branches. Out of every 10 fresh cut flowers in the country, 7 come from Dounan, making it undoubtedly the "heart" of Asian flowers.

Furong Ancient Town

Natural Creation - The Dazzling Kingdom of Plants
Entering Dounan, the first step is a grand baptism of vision and smell. What is displayed here is not a commodity, but a concentrated essence of nature and seasonal poems.
Colorful Flower Sea: A Feast of Flowing Colors
Main venue fresh cut flower area: This is a sea of flowers, but also a arena of colors. The main varieties such as roses, lilies, carnations, and bellflowers are spread out on an unimaginable scale, forming a magnificent array of single colors. And countless indescribable exotic flowers and plants adorn it, like the most dynamic brushstrokes on a palette. By observing the main flowers of different seasons, one can understand the secret of time.
Kingdom of Succulent Plants: In a dedicated succulent trading area, you will step into a cute and interesting micro world. Various and plump succulent plants with different shapes are displayed like works of art, ranging from common common goods to rare and high-quality old piles, everything is available. This is a treasure trove for gardening enthusiasts.
Pottery and Green Plant Area: Tall foliage plants, exquisite bonsai, elegant orchids... create a lush green space. Unlike the fleeting brilliance of fresh cut flowers, this place sells longer lasting companionship and vitality.
Smell Maze: A Global Journey on the Nose of the Nose
Walking through various venues, the scent is another intangible guide. The sweet fragrance of roses, the rich aroma of lilies, the serene aroma of jasmine, and the refreshing scent of eucalyptus leaves are intertwined and mixed to form a unique "scent map" in Dounan. A sharp nose can even distinguish subtle differences between different production areas and varieties based on this.

Humanistic Craftsmanship - The Mystery of the Operation of the Flower Kingdom
The charm of Dounan lies not only in its static beauty, but also in its efficient, unique, and smoke filled humanistic operation system.
Nighttime Trading Market - The Pulse of Asia's Flower Capital
This is the soul of Dounan. Every day from dusk until late at night, the main venue is bustling with people's voices and brightly lit. Flower farmers, flower merchants, and buyers are walking shoulder to shoulder, with constant voices of inquiries, inspections, and transactions. Cars of fresh flowers, freshly harvested from the fields and still carrying dew, are rapidly circulating here. The transactions here directly determine the window displays of many flower shops across the country and even Asia the next day. Being immersed in it, you can most intuitively feel the circulation speed of flowers as "fresh futures" and the intense beating of commercial pulse.

Flower Auction Hall - Silent Battlefield
At the Kunming International Flower Auction and Trading Center (KIFA), the world's second largest flower auction is being held. The huge electronic clock jumps in reverse, and the purchaser presses the bidding button in an instant, determining the fate of millions of flowers. The entire process is quiet, fast, and efficient, filled with the ceremonial and tense atmosphere of modern business. Observing auctions (reservation required) is a key lesson in understanding the core competitiveness of Dounan as an industry hub.
Flower Culture and Extension Experience - Reproduction of Beauty
In addition to trading, Dounan is also deeply exploring the cultural value of flowers. In the Flower Culture and Creative Park, there are exquisite handicrafts made from dried flowers and branches, flower art classes, and cafes and bookstores with flowers as the theme. Here, flowers have evolved from agricultural products to carriers of artistic materials and lifestyles.

Photography tips:
The night trading market is an excellent subject for cultural documentary, which can capture dynamic scenes with high sensitivity and pay attention to using on-site lighting to create an atmosphere.
The neatly stacked single color block bouquets (such as thousands of red roses) in the main venue can create a visually striking symmetrical composition.
Macro photography of succulent plant areas can showcase the intricate details of life.
Respect transactions, please try to obtain consent when taking photos of people, and avoid using flashlights to disrupt market order.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
