Water Gateway - A Millennium Anchorage in the Upper Reaches of the Yangtze River
The name "Chaotian Gate" originated in the Ming Dynasty, meaning "facing the emperor, welcoming officials and saints". But as early as the Song and Yuan dynasties, this was already the most important water and land hub in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. It is located at the "tip of the peninsula" where the Yangtze River and Jialing River intersect, and is a highly symbolic origin in Chinese geography. In ancient times, merchants gathered and goods flowed through Bashu; In modern times, the opening of ports for trade witnessed the tremendous changes and vicissitudes of cities. This water area not only defines the form of Chongqing's "Jiangcheng", but also solidifies its profound history as a strategic hub and commercial port. The journey at night is to depart from this historical starting point and sail towards the brilliance of the future.

Radiant Road - From the Night of Jiangcheng to the National Business Card
The modern sublimation of Chongqing's night scenery is an epic of collaborative evolution about urban energy, landscape aesthetics, and technological innovation:
Natural endowment: With unique mountainous terrain and buildings built along the mountains, a staggered and orderly lighting pattern is naturally formed, earning the reputation of "Water Night Lantern".
Awakening of Consciousness: With the development of the economy, Chongqing has begun to consciously carry out urban lighting, lighting up the initial outline of the riverside.
System development: The municipal government has launched the "Two Rivers and Four Banks" landscape lighting enhancement project, integrating and artistically designing lighting for buildings, mountains, and bridges along the river. Incorporate historical landmarks such as Hongyadong and Huguang Guild Hall into the light narrative along with modern landmarks such as Raffles City and Grand Theatre. Night tour projects have emerged, upgrading from simple ferry sightseeing to cultural experience products with multiple themed cruise ships.
Stunning the World: Chongqing Night Scene and Yangtze River Night Tour have become one of the benchmarks for urban tourism in China, known as the "million dollar night scene", attracting global tourists to visit and becoming a shining national cultural and tourism business card.

Must see Wonders: The Overlapping of Geographic Wonders and Cultural Light and Shadow

Furong Ancient Town Furong Ancient Town

Geographical Wonders - Symphony of Mountains, Waters, Bridges, and Buildings
The shock of a night tour of the Yangtze River first stems from the unparalleled three-dimensional geographical layout of Chongqing, which is presented to the extreme under night lights.
At the beginning of the voyage, on the river in front of Chaotianmen Square, the cruise ship will slowly pass through the intersection of the Yangtze River and Jialing River. Under the light, you can see the clear, turbid, yellow and green rivers embrace each other and have clear boundaries, forming the famous "Double-flavor hot pot" spectacle. This is the first geography lesson to understand the true nature of Chongqing's "Jiangcheng".
Bridge Crossing · Aerial Symphony: Chongqing is the 'Bridge Capital of China'. The night tour is like a ceremony of crossing a large bridge, tunnel, and museum. The cruise ship will pass under several cross river bridges, including the Qiansimen Bridge (with its red bridge tower resembling a harp) and the Dongshimen Bridge. Every time we cross, a huge bridge passes overhead, and the lighting structure of the bridge belly is like futuristic machinery, resonating with the exclamation of tourists on board, providing a unique experience.
Stereoscopic Mountain City · Building Peak Forest: Looking towards both sides during navigation, the towering skyscrapers of the Yuzhong Peninsula stand vertically like cliffs, while the buildings on Nanbin Road climb up the mountain in a stepped manner. The lighting is not flat, but rather lights up from the river to the mountaintop, outlining the bones and texture of the mountain city. This extraordinary urban density and height are emphasized by light and shadow at night, full of the visual sense of science fiction masterpieces.

Humanistic Light and Shadow - Modern Expressions of Historical Landmarks
Every light spot on both sides of the Taiwan Strait is a vivid footnote to the current Ba Yu civilization.
Hongyadong (panoramic upward view): This is the most exciting moment of night tours. When the cruise ship reaches the Jialing River and looks towards the shore from the center of the river, the Hongya Cave, a complex of Ba Yu style buildings built on cliffs, is depicted by golden lights as if it were a "Spirited Away" soup house directly brought into reality from an animation. The ship's perspective provides a complete and highly oppressive panoramic view that cannot be obtained onshore, making it the ultimate camera position for photography.
Huguang Guild Hall and Ancient City Wall: The bright yellow lights illuminate the century old Huguang Guild Hall complex, surrounded by modern buildings, making this ancient cornice even more serene and weathered. The ancient city wall of Dongshimen, connected to it, appears under the lights, telling the story of the city's defense and memory.
Chongqing Grand Theatre and Raffles City: Modern landmarks are the canvas of light art. The Chongqing Grand Theatre is like a huge crystal cutting body, with its lights that can change colors and reflect on the river, full of modern artistic sense. The "Crystal Corridor" and towering towers of Raffles City outline the futuristic feel of Chongqing as an international metropolis with cold and stern lines of light.
The Nanshan Mountains and Skyline: Looking across the river from afar, the Nanshan Mountains are like a black screen, and the "One Tree" observation deck on the ridge is illuminated by flashing lights, echoing with the river cruise ships in the center, forming a complete ecology for enjoying the three-dimensional urban night view.

Photography tips:
The best camera position to capture the panoramic view of Hongya Cave is on the left side of the cruise ship in the Jialing River channel, using a medium focal length to compress the space and highlight the layered sense of the building.
To capture the confluence of two rivers, a wide-angle lens is required. It is best to capture the "blues moment" when the sky is not completely dark at the beginning or end of the journey, as the sky and lights are the most colorful.
When crossing bridges, the sensitivity can be increased to try capturing the contrast between the dynamic blur of the bridge body and the clear hull, creating a sense of speed.
When using a mobile phone or camera to shoot videos, it is recommended to turn off autofocus and exposure lock to avoid frequent flickering of the image due to changes in lighting.

Core Experience: Immersive Mountain City Nightlife Guide

Five Must Do Things to Unlock a Complete Night Tour Journey
Shoot a cyberpunk style urban blockbuster
Time: From half an hour to an hour after sunset, during the "blues moment" until the first half of dawn, when the sky has details, the lights are already on, and the color layers are the richest.
Location: Top deck of the cruise ship (with Hongya Cave or bridge as the background), capturing the dimly lit riverbank through the cabin glass.
Clothing: Modern, fashionable or futuristic attire that complements the magical urban background.
Go to a river feast that transcends time and space
Key: Choosing the right ship type and cabin experience can have a huge difference! Traditional cruise ships offer high cost-effectiveness and a broad view; High end catering boats offer self-service dinners and performances, providing a more comfortable and complete experience; Small boutique boats are more private and suitable for small groups.
Experience: Embark from Chaotianmen Port and enjoy the four major chapters of "Two Rivers Confluence", "Three dimensional Mountain City", "Bridge City Style", and "Historical Light and Shadow" in approximately 60-90 minutes of journey, experiencing the magnificent narrative of Chongqing from ancient times to the present.
Taste the Ba Yu flavor flowing across the two rivers
Top experience: "Two Rivers Tour" high-end dining boat. On a slow-moving cruise ship, enjoy an authentic Chongqing hotpot or exquisite Sichuan cuisine, with a slowly moving and priceless night view outside the window, reaching a dual peak of taste and visual enjoyment.
Featured selection: Many cruise ships offer tea and snack packages, making it easier to focus on sightseeing and photography, suitable for tourists with limited budgets or late arrivals.
Listen to a vivid explanation of a city story
Cultural interaction: Most cruise ships offer full voice explanations or on-site tour guide services. Follow the explanation to learn about the construction legends of every bridge along the way, the past and present of every landmark building, and the city stories hidden behind the lights, making the scenery before you feel deep and warm.
Continuing a magical night of water land linkage
After disembarking, the journey did not end. Walking from the dock, you can reach the most core night view check-in spot in Chongqing:
Experience the 360 degree panoramic night view of the two rivers and four banks at Chaotianmen Square.
Walk to the interior of Hongyadong Scenic Area, step into the "Cliff Castle" from the "Sky Street", and experience the wonderful feeling of Miyazaki Hayao's animation shining into reality.
Take the Yangtze River Cableway (night operation) and cross the Yangtze River again from the air, obtaining a completely different flying perspective from a cruise ship.

Tourist Route Suggestions
One night "Classic essence" Night Tour:
Arrive at Chaotianmen dock area at 7:00 p.m. → according to the time of the ticket, exchange for boarding 30 minutes in advance (it is recommended to choose a flight at around 8:00 p.m., the sky is completely dark, and the night view is the best) → After boarding, take priority to occupy the top deck or window seat → start the core voyage of the night tour between the two rivers for about 60-90 minutes → After disembarking (about 9:30 p.m.), walk 15 minutes to the upper entrance of Hongya Cave Scenic Area, overlook the night view and enter the scenic area for sightseeing → For night snack, you can choose Hongya Cave or the hotpot restaurant near Monument to the people's Liberation.
IntoTravelChina Tip: This itinerary is a classic arrangement, and the ferry terminal is crowded on weekends and holidays. It is recommended to book your ticket in advance and obtain accurate boarding instructions through us to save time on site queuing and searching.

Evening: Head to a tree observation deck in Nanshan and overlook the panoramic view of Yuzhong Peninsula under the sunset, witnessing the process of the city lights being lit up one by one.

Travel Guide: Transportation, Accommodation, and Seasons

How to reach: Seamless Connection Guide
The boarding docks for night tours of the Yangtze River are highly concentrated, mainly located near Chaotianmen in Yuzhong District.
The most convenient way to depart from Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport is to take the airport express K01 directly to Chaotianmen, or take the subway line 10 and transfer to line 6 to "Xiaoshizi" station, and walk for about 10 minutes to arrive. Taking a taxi takes about 40-60 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.
Starting from Chongqing North Station (high-speed railway), it is most convenient to take Metro Line 10 and transfer to Line 6 to reach "Xiaoshizi" Station.
You can navigate to "Chaotianmen Pier" or the ticket office of a specific cruise company within the city. The roads around the dock are complex and parking spaces are extremely tight. It is strongly not recommended to drive there, and priority should be given to choosing rail transit or taxis.
Important return reminder: Night tour flights usually end before 10:30 pm. At the end of the event, a large number of tourists rushed out of the Chaotianmen area, making it difficult and congested to hail a taxi. It is recommended to book a car through mobile phone software in advance, or walk to the "Xiaoshi", "Monument to the people's Liberation" and other subway stations or trunk roads a little farther before taking a taxi.

Best Travel Time
Chongqing Yangtze River night tours are available all year round, but the best experiences are undoubtedly in spring and autumn when the climate is refreshing and visibility is high.
The golden season of spring and autumn (March May, September November) has the most pleasant climate, with cool river winds at night, clear skies, and high visibility, making it the preferred season for viewing and shooting night scenes.
In the summer active season (June August), Chongqing has a busy summer night, but the weather is sultry, and rainstorm or fog may occur, which may affect navigation and sightseeing. Choosing an air-conditioned enclosed cruise ship provides a better experience.
During the warm winter season (December to February), there are relatively few tourists, and the cold river winds require extra clothing. But during the Spring Festival, the night scenery will be decorated with special holiday lights, which have a strong New Year's flavor and unique charm.

Accommodation Options
Adjacent to the dock and core area (preferred)
Monument to the people's Liberation/Chaotianmen Business District Hotel: This is the absolute center of Chongqing. There are many choices from international chain hotels to boutique design B&Bs. You can walk to Chaotianmen Pier, which offers top-notch dining, shopping, and entertainment facilities. After the night tour, you can easily return.
Suitable for almost all tourists, especially those who are visiting Chongqing for the first time and seeking ultimate convenience.
Nanbin Road Landscape Area
Hotels along Nanbin Road: Located on the south bank of the Yangtze River, many hotel rooms face the Yuzhong Peninsula and offer unbeatable static river views. At night, you can enjoy the night view from the balcony of the room, complementing the dynamic perspective of the cruise ship. You need to take a taxi or subway across the river to the pier (about 15-20 minutes).
Suitable for: Tourists who value accommodation scenery, prefer quietness, and do not mind short distance transportation.
Jiangbeizui/Hongyadong characteristic area
Jiangbeizui Financial District Hotel: With a high degree of modernization, it boasts a unique view of the Jialing River. Featured hotels/homestays around Hongyadong: Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the scenic spot, and quickly immerse yourself in the lively street market after the night tour.
Suitable for: Tourists who wish to appreciate the city from different perspectives or have a preference for specific areas.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal!
