Q & A

Arrival evening in Chengdu — should we book the Sichuan Opera face-changing show?
Yes — book it, ideally in advance. The classic Shufeng Yayun show runs around 20:00–21:30 with face-changing, fire-spitting and shadow play, and tickets start around 148 yuan with tea included. Seats sell out days ahead, especially weekends, so we reserve for you on arrival day. It is an easy, seated evening that fits jet lag better than late bar-hopping.
Day 7 flight to Chongqing — how does the body adjust, and is the night river cruise worth it?
The body gets a welcome break: Lhasa sits at 3,650 meters, Chongqing at roughly 250, and the direct flight takes about 2.5 hours, so headaches usually ease the same evening. The night cruise is the honest highlight — about 45–60 minutes, 128–168 yuan, with Hongya Cave and both river skylines from the water. We book it for the first night, while you still have energy.
Liziba's train-through-building and the Yangtze River cable car — genuinely worth it, or just photo gimmicks?
Both are transit-as-attraction, and both are worth it once, with different trade-offs. The cable car is a genuine 5-minute river crossing, about 30 yuan one-way or 50 round-trip, but queues can hit an hour on evenings and weekends, so we book timed slots. Liziba is free and queue-free: stand on the platform, and the train slides through the building every few minutes.
Chongqing hotpot and Ciqikou snacks — spice strategy after a week on the road?
Lean into it, with a strategy. Chongqing hotpot is famously numbing-spicy, so start mild, order the nine-grid pot, and let the guide handle "less spicy" requests; add cold beer or soymilk. In Ciqikou, try spicy noodles and tofu pudding — easy to share. After Tibet's gentle flavors, most guests enjoy the jolt, but we can always dial the heat down.
Who should think twice about this route — health and fitness check before booking?
Most healthy travelers handle it, with honest caveats. The demands are Potala's stairs at 3,650 meters, Yamdrok's 4,400-meter viewpoints, and Chongqing's hills — not technical hiking, but steady walking. Anyone with heart or lung conditions should clear the altitude first with a doctor. We pace everything, carry oxygen on the lake day, and can trim stops if legs complain.
