Morning: Visit the Yu Garden, a treasure of Chinese Jiangnan garden art, stroll along the pavilions, towers and nine-curve bridges, and feel the exquisiteness and tranquility of Ming and Qing gardens. Then go to the adjacent Yu Garden Old Street to taste a variety of local snacks and appreciate the fireworks of Shanghai's old town.
Afternoon: Go to the Oriental Pearl Tower, climb up and overlook the Huangpu River, and take in the city skyline. Then stroll along Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street to feel the modern rhythm of the bustling commercial district. In the evening, come to the Bund to enjoy the beautiful night scene of century-old international buildings and modern skyscrapers on the opposite bank.

Morning: We will set off to Suzhou in the morning, after arriving in Suzhou, visit the Humble Administrator's Garden, a typical Jiangnan classical garden famous for its waterscape, with pavilions and towers intertwined with winding corridors, showing the elegance of literati.
Afternoon: Go to the historic Shantang Street, stroll along the bluestone path, and appreciate the style of Suzhou. Then we visited Tongli Ancient Town. This ancient water town retains the original ancient buildings and flowing water, and is an ideal place to experience the rhythm of life in the Jiangnan water town.

Q & A
Yu Garden and the old-town morning — how much time do we need, and is the ticket worth it?
Give the garden about 1.5–2 hours, plus another hour for the old-town bazaar around it. Tickets run about 40 yuan in peak months and 30 in low season, and the garden is usually closed on Mondays, so we check before booking. Weekday mornings are dramatically quieter; we enter at opening, before the tour groups arrive around ten.
Oriental Pearl Tower and the Bund — which order, and which deck level is enough?
See the tower in the late afternoon, then cross to the Bund for the 19:00 light-up — that order wins. The two-sphere ticket covers the 263-meter deck and glass walkway for about 199 yuan; the three-sphere version adds the 351-meter Space Capsule for roughly 299 yuan. For most visitors, two spheres are enough; the Bund itself is free.
Food — what should we actually order in Shanghai and Suzhou?
Let the guide order, then the classic hits appear: xiaolongbao, shengjian and red-braised pork in Shanghai; squirrel-shaped mandarin fish, noodles and osmanthus cakes in Suzhou. Suzhou cooking is lightly sweet, freshwater-focused and not spicy — a surprise many first-timers enjoy. Lunch is included both days, and we swap dishes for allergies or preferences if you tell us in advance.
What is the realistic weather, and how do we dress for a walking-heavy two days?
March to May and September to November give the mildest walking weather; summer is hot and humid, June brings plum rain, and July to September carries typhoon risk, though downpours rarely last. Pack layers, a compact umbrella and comfortable non-slip shoes — garden paths and Tongli's bluestone lanes get slick. Air-conditioned cars and restaurants make a light sweater useful year-round.
Hotels, meals and upgrades — what exactly is included, and can we add a bed?
Both nights are 4-star hotels with breakfast, and we can usually arrange an extra bed or upgrade at booking if space allows, so tell us your family size early. Lunch is included both days, with light options on garden days. The driver handles luggage between Shanghai and Suzhou, and hotel names are confirmed directly with you at booking.
