Q & A

Is Shenzhen worth two full days before the mountains and history?
Only if you buy the contrast. Shenzhen gives you China's most futuristic face, theme parks and electronics markets you will not find elsewhere; Zhangjiajie and Xi'an supply the nature and the history. Two days work because Day 2 is playful and Day 3 is high-energy, which is a fair trade before the mountain days. If you prefer pure history, we can compress Shenzhen to one day.
Is the Day 3 tech crawl too packed?
It is ambitious, and the honest answer is that we order it instead of stacking it. The museum, planning hall and Shenzhen Eye are quick indoor stops; Huaqiangbei is a controlled walk-through; OCT Harbour's DJI and Huawei halls are free and fast; and the Ping An deck is weather-dependent, so we decide it last. The driverless Line 12 ride and Dongmen finish the arc. Expect about 17,000 steps.
Six hours on a train from Shenzhen to Zhangjiajie — what's the ride like?
Better than you might fear. These are modern G-trains with reclining seats, power outlets, dining cars and big windows, and the roughly six-hour run through Guangdong and Hunan is the day's only task, so it doubles as rest before Zhangjiajie. We book your seats ahead, carry the luggage, and a driver meets you at the station. It is a travel day, but a comfortable one.
Tianmen Mountain and a same-day flight to Xi'an — will we feel rushed?
Only if the weather or the queues turn against us. We take the earliest cable car, walk or take the escalator through the cave section, and keep the summit loop tight; lunch and a generous airport buffer follow. Tianmen is a full-day attraction in theory, so this is a compressed version, and we confirm your flight time before fixing the order. On foggy days, we weigh whether to switch the mountain to another slot.
We end with Temple of Heaven, hutongs, dumplings and a departure — is that a good last day?
It is a gentle, fitting close rather than a sprint. The Temple of Heaven shows Beijing at its most local, the hutong rickshaw adds old-lane atmosphere, and making dumplings with a family turns the last lunch into a memory. We schedule it around your flight, usually finishing two to three hours before departure. If your flight is early, we trim the rickshaw, not the dumplings.
