Q & A

Can I use my credit card, or do I need cash?
Download Alipay and WeChat Pay before you fly, link your international Visa/Mastercard, and verify your passport – these are accepted almost everywhere, but keep a small amount of RMB cash as backup for very small vendors.
When is the best time of year to visit Shanghai and Hangzhou?
Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) offer the most comfortable weather (12–26°C / 55–80°F) – summer is hot and humid with a "plum rain" season in June, while winter is chilly.
Will there be English signage and help if I don't speak Chinese?
Major tourist sites have some English signage, but English is not widely spoken – download a translation app (like MyChinaGuide or Youdao Translator) with offline and camera translation features to read menus and signs.
