Afternoon: Visit Badaguan, known as an “Exposition of World Architecture.” Over 300 villas here represent styles from Germany, Russia, the U.S., and beyond. Stroll down tree-lined paths, where fallen leaves carpet the ground. Don’t miss Huashi Villa, blending Gothic, Roman, and Greek styles, or the fairytale-like Princess House.

Take the high-speed train to Penglai to explore Penglai Pavilion, one of China's Four Great Towers, famed as a "fairyland on earth". Built in 1061 AD, it’s part of a vast complex of ancient temples and halls.
According to legend, the Eight Immortals once returned from a divine feast here and decided to cross the sea using their magical items—giving rise to the phrase “Each Immortal displays their powers.” The tales come alive amid the sea breeze and historic architecture.

Q & A
When is the best time for this trip — can we swim, and when do the leaves turn?
June to mid-September suits swimmers, with warm water and the summer beach season at its peak, though July and August bring crowds and higher hotel prices. Late September to November is the photographers' window, when Badaguan's maple and ginkgo streets turn gold and the sea air stays mild. Spring is pleasant but cool for swimming. Tell us your dates and we will tailor the beach time accordingly.
Day 3 has two high-speed train rides with Penglai Pavilion in between. Will it feel rushed?
Manageable, because the trains handle the miles and we handle everything else: tickets booked, luggage carried, and hotel check-in arranged on arrival. You get a solid two to three hours at the pavilion itself, which is the point of the day. The coastal scenery between stations makes the transfers part of the experience rather than dead time. It is a travel day, not a relaxing day.
Is the Tsingtao Beer Museum worth it if we don't drink beer?
Yes, and it is one of Qingdao's best rainy-day or hot-afternoon stops. The museum lives in the original 1903 brewery buildings, with century-old machinery, a working bottling line and interactive halls; the ticket includes two small tastings, and children receive juice instead. Non-drinkers consistently rate the history and the atmosphere as the real draw. Allow about two hours.
What seafood should we try, and what if we don't eat seafood?
Start with Qingdao's mackerel dumplings and spicy stir-fried clams, then beer-street skewers, and in Penglai try the famous small noodles. Non-seafood eaters are well covered: Shandong is known for dumplings, braised dishes and fresh vegetables, and our guide orders around allergies and preferences. Seafood here is best eaten where locals queue, so we choose busy, honest restaurants.
Will we actually see the Penglai mirage, and is the pavilion worth the trip?
The mirage is genuinely rare, most likely on calm spring or early-summer mornings after rain, so treat it as a bonus, not a promise. The pavilion itself, one of China's Four Great Towers, is worth the trip for the 1061-built halls, the Eight Immortals legends and the cliff-top views over the Yellow and Bohai Seas. Entry runs about 100–130 yuan; allow two to three hours.
