  • Laoshan Mountain Deep Dive -- Weihai
  • 4+Star Hotel
  • Breakfast

Rising at 1,132m, Laoshan Mountain is China’s highest coastal peak and a Taoist sanctuary with a 2,000-year history. As the birthplace of Quanzhen Daoism, it blends spirituality with breathtaking nature. Begin your ascent through ancient trails flanked by temples like the Taqing Palace, founded in the Western Han Dynasty and rebuilt in the Yuan Dynasty, where 1,300-year-old cypress trees and 700-year-old camellias whisper tales of sages. Explore the Nine Water Scenic Area, where cascading waterfalls like Longtan Waterfall (30m drop) create misty “dragon rain” spectacles, and crystal-clear streams carve through 18 valleys. The mountain’s geological wonders include granite peaks shaped by glaciers and sea erosion, earning it the title “No.1 Mountain by the Sea” since the Qin Dynasty. Historically, emperors like Qin Shi Huang sought immortality here, while poets like Li Bai immortalized its misty peaks. Today, it harmonizes UNESCO-recognized Taoist culture with trails offering panoramic views of the Yellow Sea.

After Laoshan Mountain exploration, you will be driven to Weihai (about 3.5 hours), and check in to your hotel in Weihai downtown.

  • Weihai Weihai International Bathing Beach -- Liugong Island -- Chengshantou
  • 4+Star Hotel
  • Breakfast

Today is dedicated to uncovering the rich tapestry of Weihai. We start gently with a leisurely walk along the Weihai International Bathing Beach, feeling the soft sand and listening to the gentle waves of the Yellow Sea—a perfect moment of relaxation. The beach's clean, gentle slopes and clear waters make it a beloved summer retreat for locals and visitors alike, offering a serene escape.

Later, our journey takes a historic turn as we visit Liugong Island, often called the "Sacred Place of China's First Modern Navy." This island is a living history book, offering profound insights into the Sino-Japanese War. Explore the well-preserved historical sites and museums that quietly narrate tales of naval battles and China's early modernization efforts, set against a backdrop of lush greenery and coastal views.

To cap off the day, we'll head to Chengshantou (Heaven's End), a spectacular cape considered the easternmost tip of China's mainland. Standing on the cliffs where the mountains and sea converge, you'll be rewarded with truly majestic and powerful views. It's a place where you can witness the sun's first rays touch the Chinese mainland, with the roaring tides below creating a scene of untamed, dramatic beauty that has inspired poets for centuries.

  • Yantai Hill Park -- Changyu Wine Culture Museum -- Penglai Pavilion Scenic Area -- Penglai Water City
  • 4+Star Hotel
  • Breakfast

Continuing our journey north, we arrive in Yantai. Our first stop is Yantai Hill Park, a green oasis that offers panoramic views of the harbor. Discover the ancient lighthouse and learn about the city's maritime history. The hill itself is a historical landmark, dotted with charming old consulate buildings that whisper stories of Yantai's past as an international treaty port.

From the heights of the hill, we descend into the depths of a wine cellar at the Changyu Wine Culture Museum. As the pioneer of China's wine industry, Changyu offers an engaging experience where you can learn about and taste local wines. Housed in a captivating century-old cellar, the museum showcases vast oak barrels and antique equipment, bringing to life the story of how wine culture took root and flourished in this region.

Finally, we proceed to the legendary city of Penglai. Here, you will explore the iconic Penglai Pavilion Scenic Area, an ancient pavilion complex perched over the sea, shrouded in myths of the Eight Immortals. This site is famous for its occasional mirage over the sea, further solidifying its ethereal reputation as a gateway to the realm of immortals. You will also see the historic Penglai Water City, an ancient naval harbor that showcases remarkable maritime engineering. Walking along its fortified walls, you can almost picture the mighty fleets of the Ming Dynasty that were once stationed here, guarding the coastline.

Q & A

Is there a lot of walking or climbing?
Yes, expect a fair amount. Penglai Pavilion has many steps, and Laoshan Mountain involves hiking. Wear comfortable, non-slip walking shoes. The tour is designed to be manageable, with options like sightseeing buses on Liugong Island to reduce walking.
What local food should I try?
Seafood is the highlight. Must-tries include clams (especially in Qingdao and Weihai), mackerel dumplings, and Penglai noodles. Don’t miss Qingdao’s famous beer, best enjoyed fresh at the Beer Museum.
Can I use my credit card, or do I need cash?
China is largely cashless. You should download Alipay or WeChat Pay before you arrive, link your international credit card, and verify your passport. These apps are accepted almost everywhere. Keep a small amount of RMB cash as a backup for street vendors or very small shops.
