Dujiangyan Irrigation Project--Qingcheng Mountain

Early in the morning, we will drive to Dujiangyan.
The first thing that strikes you is this great 2,000 year old irrigation system. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is famous for its remarkable design of diverting water without a dam. It is one of the world's unique water wonders.
Afterwards, you will go to visit Qingcheng Mountain, which is admired nation wide for its“peerless tranquility" and its historical sites of Taoist culture. In 142 A.D., Zhang Ling, the founder of Taoism, was enlightened here and spread the teachings of Taoism.
Finally, we will head to Laojun Pavilion, a nine-story building that stands 33 meters high. Standing in the pavilion, you can overlook the magnificent panorama of Mount Qingcheng.
At the end of the day, we will transfer you back to your hotel in the center of Chengdu to rest.
Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding--Chengdu People's Park--Wuhou Shrine--Old streets of Jinli In the morning, you will go to Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.
This is not only a scientific research base for pandas around the
world, but also a cozy home for more than a hundred of pandas. You will
be able to observe pandas of all ages eating, playing, rolling on the
ground and climbing trees. In the afternoon, you will step into Chengdu People's Park
to
experience the unique leisure and ease of this city. Here you can order a
pot of tea and take a nap or join the local people in a game of mahjong
and experience the ear cleaning service. Next, we drove to Wuhou Shrine,
which is known as the "mecca of
the Three Kingdoms" The most venerated memorial of Zhuge
Liang, Liu Bei and other important Shu Han individuals. It is not only
an important carrier of the Three Kingdoms culture, but also a treasure
of ancient Chinese architectural and sculptural art. As night falls, you will step into the old street of Jinli,
which has ancient buildings, lots of Chengdu snacks and cuisines, and
exquisite handicrafts that are lively and interesting folk performances.

Q & A
Day 1 covers both Dujiangyan and Qingcheng Mountain, then returns to Chengdu. Is it too rushed?
It's a full day but perfectly manageable. Dujiangyan is about 1.5 hours from Chengdu, and the irrigation system visit takes around 2 hours. Qingcheng Mountain is nearby—you can take a cable car up to save energy. We'll pace the day to suit you, and you'll be back at your Chengdu hotel by evening.
Is the cable car at Qingcheng Mountain included? What about entrance fees for both sites?
Entrance fees to Dujiangyan and Qingcheng Mountain are included. The cable car at Qingcheng Mountain is optional and paid on-site. Your guide will help you decide whether to hike or ride and assist with ticket purchase.
How physically demanding is Qingcheng Mountain? Can older family members manage?
Qingcheng's front mountain has well-paved paths but some steps. The cable car cuts out the steepest section, making it accessible for most ages. Laojun Pavilion has stairs but the view is worth it. We can always slow the pace or skip the pavilion if needed.
The Panda Base is in the morning. Will we see active pandas or just sleeping ones?
Morning is actually the best time to visit—pandas are most active during feeding time, usually between 8:30 and 10:30 AM. You'll likely see them eating bamboo, playing, and climbing. Your guide will time the visit to maximize panda activity.
Is the ear-cleaning service at People's Park included or extra? How much does it cost?
It's an optional local experience, not included in the package. Typically around RMB 30–50, paid directly to the service provider. It's a unique Chengdu tradition—relaxing and surprisingly refreshing. Your guide can help arrange it if you're interested.
The itinerary recommends face-changing opera. Can you book tickets for us?
Absolutely. Sichuan opera face-changing is a must-see in Chengdu. We can book tickets for an evening show—popular venues include Shufeng Yayun or Jinjiang Theater. Your guide can arrange transport there and back. Just let us know if you're interested, ideally a day ahead.
Is Jinli Ancient Street crowded? Is it safe at night?
Jinli is lively in the evening, especially on weekends, but that's part of its charm. It's very safe—well-lit and popular with both locals and tourists. Your guide will give you a meeting point and time, and the driver will be nearby to pick you up.
