Your Ultimate Guide to Guizhou’s Unique Weather

Discover everything you need to know about Guizhou's weather, from seasonal variations to climate tips, to help you plan the perfect trip.

Guizhou, located in the southwest of China, is known for its diverse landscapes, rich ethnic cultures, and distinctive climate. The province enjoys a mild subtropical monsoon climate, shaped by its mountainous terrain. While Guizhou's weather is generally moderate, it varies depending on the season, altitude, and geography.

spring (March to May): Spring in Guizhou is mild, with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 20°C (50°F to 68°F). It’s a time when the province bursts into life, with flowers blooming and greenery returning to the hills. However, spring also brings occasional rain, especially in late March and April. If you're planning to hike or explore the countryside, it's wise to pack a light raincoat and waterproof shoes.

Summer (June to August): Guizhou’s summer months can be warm and humid, with temperatures ranging from 20°C to 26°C (68°F to 79°F). The region sees heavy rainfall during this period, particularly in July and August, due to the monsoon. The lush, green landscape and cascading waterfalls are a result of these rains, but travelers should be prepared for wet conditions. Summer is a great time to visit Guizhou’s scenic spots, but it's essential to have an umbrella or rain gear on hand.

autumn (September to November): Autumn is considered one of the best times to visit Guizhou, with cooler temperatures between 15°C to 22°C (59°F to 72°F). The weather is dry, and the skies are clear, making it perfect for outdoor activities such as trekking, sightseeing, and photography. The changing colors of the foliage add a special charm to the scenery, especially in areas like the karst landscapes of Libo or Zhenyuan’s ancient town.

Winter (December to February): Winter in Guizhou is cold but not extreme, with temperatures ranging from 5°C to 10°C (41°F to 50°F). Snowfall is rare, but higher altitudes can experience frost. The lower tourist crowds during winter allow for a peaceful, off-season visit.

Guizhou’s unique weather conditions make it an attractive destination year-round. Whether you’re visiting in the green and rainy summer or the crisp and clear autumn, there’s always something beautiful to experience.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

As a solo traveler from Canada, I was nervous about navigating China alone—but this 11-day tour was PERFECT! From hiking the Great Wall at sunrise (Day 3) to gasping at the Terracotta Army (Day 5), every day delivered ‘pinch-me’ moments. The real showstopper? Zhangjiajie’s Avatar Mountains (Day 7)! Our guide made the stone pillars come alive with stories. Massive thanks for handling all logistics—bullet train tickets, entry passes, car! And the 4-star hotels surprised me.

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
