One-Day Xiamen Itinerary Guide

Start your day at Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street, sampling local snacks and shopping. Visit Nanputuo Temple for a peaceful cultural experience. Enjoy a seafood hotpot lunch, then take a ferry to Gulangyu Island to explore gardens and museums. End your day with dinner at Zeng Cuo An Village and a ride on the Xiamen Ferris Wheel.

Morning: Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street & Nanputuo Temple

Start your day with a visit to Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street, Xiamen’s most famous shopping street. This vibrant area is lined with shops selling local products, souvenirs, clothing, and street food. Take a leisurely walk through the bustling streets, where you can try traditional snacks like Xiamen peanut soup, Fried rice noodles, and Xiamen spring rolls. It's a great place to immerse yourself in the local atmosphere and pick up some souvenirs.

After exploring Zhongshan Road, head to the nearby Nanputuo Temple, located at the foot of the Wulao Mountain. This famous Buddhist temple, with its peaceful courtyards and magnificent architecture, dates back to the Tang Dynasty. You can wander through the temple’s halls, light incense for blessings, and take in the serene surroundings. Don't forget to visit the nearby Nanputuo Museum for some insight into the History and Culture of the temple.

Lunch: Local Delicacies at a Restaurant

For lunch, enjoy a meal at a local restaurant in the city center. Try Xiamen’s seafood hotpot, where you can cook a variety of fresh seafood like shrimp, crab, and fish, along with vegetables and tofu in a flavorful broth. Alternatively, you can enjoy some traditional Xiamen-style dumplings (also known as "Xiamen shacha dumplings"), which are filled with savory ingredients like pork, shrimp, and mushrooms.

If you’re in the mood for something sweet, try Xiamen’s famous peanut candy or a bowl of tangyuan (sweet rice balls filled with sesame or peanut paste).

Afternoon: Gulangyu Island

In the afternoon, take a ferry from Xiamen Ferry Terminal to Gulangyu Island, which is just a 5-10 minute ride away. Gulangyu is known for its car-free streets, colonial architecture, and lush greenery, making it a peaceful escape from the city.

Once on the island, explore the charming streets filled with old villas, boutique stores, and unique cafés. One of the island's Top Attractions is Shuzhuang Garden, a beautifully landscaped garden with pavilions, koi ponds, and rockeries. Afterward, head to the Gulangyu Piano Museum, housed in a historic building, to learn about the island’s rich musical history.

If you have time, take a walk to Sunlight Rock, the highest point on Gulangyu, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the island, Xiamen city, and the surrounding sea.

Evening: Zeng Cuo An Village & Seaside Promenade

Return to Xiamen in the late afternoon and head to Zeng Cuo An Village, a trendy area located near the beach. The village has a relaxed, artistic vibe, with narrow streets lined with cafés, art shops, and small boutiques. It's an excellent spot to unwind, enjoy dinner, and soak up the atmosphere.

For dinner, try the Xiamen-style seafood, especially the salted egg yolk crab or steamed shrimp, both of which are local specialties. There are plenty of restaurants and seafood vendors in Zeng Cuo An where you can enjoy these dishes with a sea view.

After dinner, take a walk along Xiamen's Seaside Promenade. The promenade stretches along the coastline and offers stunning views of the ocean, nearby islands, and the city skyline. It's a peaceful place to reflect on the day’s adventures and enjoy the sea breeze.

Night: Xiamen ferris wheel

End your day with a ride on the Xiamen Ferris Wheel, located near the Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center. The Ferris wheel offers spectacular nighttime views of the city and the surrounding coastline. It’s a great way to cap off your day and take in the beauty of Xiamen from above.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

As a solo traveler from Canada, I was nervous about navigating China alone—but this 11-day tour was PERFECT! From hiking the Great Wall at sunrise (Day 3) to gasping at the Terracotta Army (Day 5), every day delivered ‘pinch-me’ moments. The real showstopper? Zhangjiajie’s Avatar Mountains (Day 7)! Our guide made the stone pillars come alive with stories. Massive thanks for handling all logistics—bullet train tickets, entry passes, car! And the 4-star hotels surprised me.

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
