Dianchi Lake - Yunnan Nationalities Village - Xishan Mountain Scenic Area

In the morning, you will visit the Dianchi lake, the largest freshwater lake in Yunnan Province, is known as the “Pearl of the Plateau”. You can take a walk around the lake, ride around the lake or take a boat trip.
Yunnan Nationalities Village is a tourist attraction that concentrates the essence of diverse ethnic cultures in Yunnan. It brings together the architectural styles, living customs, songs, dances, arts and festivals of more than 20 ethnic groups in Yunnan Province. Yunnan Nationalities Village also regularly organizes various ethnic festivals and cultural performances, such as Water Splashing Festival, Torch Festival, etc., so that tourists can experience the traditional festival atmosphere and joyful scenes of Yunnan's ethnic minorities.
This afternoon, you will visit Xishan Mountain, known as “Sleeping Beauty Mountain”, which offers a panoramic view of Dianchi Lake.
In addition to the natural landscape, there are also ancient sites such as the Dragon Gate(Longmen)where you can enjoy the art of grottoes.
If you are interested, we recommend you to visit HuatingTemple and Taihua Temple. Both temples are included in the entrance fee, where you can enjoy the ancient Buddhist culture and feel the peace of mind.
Yuantong Temple - The Stone Forest - Yunnan Departure

In the morning you will first come to Yuantong Temple, which is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Kunming, with a history of more than 1,200 years of founding. It is also the largest temple in Kunming.
Afterwards, we will come to the Stone Forest, which is regarded as “the essence of the world's karst landscape” and listed as a World Natural Heritage by UNESCO. Taking a sightseeing bus, we will go deep into the Boulder Forest Scenic Area, as if entering a labyrinth of giant boulders. Along the way, you'll see towering concentrations of rocky peaks and unique panoramas of rocky forests.
Next, we will continue by bus to the Little Stone Forest. Here you will have a chance to see the iconic stone “Asima”, a realistic boulder that resembles a graceful young lady.
While you are visiting the Stone Forest, you can also experience the unique charm of Yi ethnic minority culture, enjoy the traditional songs and dances of the Yi people, and taste the authentic Yi cuisine.
After today's tour, you will be transferred to the airport or train station for your flight or train to your next destination.

Q & A
We fly out after Day 2. Is Yuantong Temple plus Stone Forest realistic before departure?
Yes, for evening departures; for earlier flights it gets tight. Yuantong Temple takes about an hour, Stone Forest needs roughly three to four hours, and the drive back to Kunming's airport runs about 1.5–2 hours. As a rule of thumb, we plan for a flight no earlier than around 6pm, or we shorten the temple visit. Tell us your departure time when booking and we will build the day backwards.
Can we actually join the Water Splashing or Torch Festival?
Timing is everything. The Dai Water Splashing Festival falls around April 13–16, and the Yi Torch Festival around late July or early August by the lunar calendar; both are recreated at the Nationalities Village and celebrated locally near the Stone Forest. Outside those windows, expect performances rather than the full festival. Tell us your dates and we will check whether a genuine celebration lands inside your trip.
Boat, bicycle or walking at Dianchi — which is worth it?
All three work, depending on your mood. A stroll along Haigeng Park is the easiest and free, with lake views and, from November to March, thousands of wintering gulls; cycling suits energetic travelers on the lakeside path; the boat gives a fuller panorama. Honest note: the north shore can have algae blooms in summer, so treat Dianchi as scenery rather than a swimming lake.
Can we see the Sleeping Beauty and Dragon Gate without a big climb?
Yes. The scenic area runs a cable car and shuttle options that reduce the climb to short, manageable sections, with a combo ticket covering the main transport. The Dragon Gate itself is a narrow cliffside walkway with steep drops, so anyone uneasy with heights can enjoy the viewpoints and temples instead. Huating and Taihua temples are usually included with your Xishan ticket.
What should we eat in these two days, and are there vegetarian options?
Start with Kunming's cross-bridge rice noodles and steam-pot chicken; near the Stone Forest, Yi-style roasted meats, buckwheat cakes and sour pickled specialties are the local flavour. Vegetarians are workable: plain rice noodles, stir-fried greens and temple-style vegetarian meals exist, but broths often hide meat stock, so our guide orders with clear phrases. Wild mushroom hotpot is superb but seasonal, so we choose reputable restaurants.
