Day 2: Xi'an – Yucha Grand Canyon – Yan'an (The Light Sculptor's Gallery)

  • Drive to Ganquan, Explore Yucha Grand Canyon (Danxia Slot Canyon), Overnight in Yan'an
  • Hotel: 4+stars Hotel
  • Meals:Breakfast

Leave the city walls behind as we journey north into the Loess Plateau landscape. Our destination is the breathtaking Yucha Grand Canyon (also known as Ganquan Grand Canyon), a geological marvel millions of years in the making. Unlike the crowded canyons of the American Southwest, this "Chinese Antelope Canyon" offers an intimate, private discovery.

Experience Highlight: Walking through the narrow, winding sandstone fissures feels like stepping inside the earth's imagination. The walls ripple with smooth, flowing lines, polished by eons of rain and wind. Depending on the time of day, beams of sunlight pierce the narrow opening above, igniting the red and gold sandstone in a fleeting, magical display. It’s a quiet, almost sacred space—you’ll hear only the crunch of your feet and the whisper of the wind. After ample time to capture the perfect photo and simply soak in the stillness, we continue to Yan'an, the famed "Red Capital," for a restful evening.

Today is dedicated to the mesmerizing patterns of the Wave Valley (Jingbian Danxia Landform) . This is a newer discovery on the world travel map but rivals the famous "Wave" formation in Arizona/Utah in its surreal beauty.

Experience Highlight: The terrain here is a visual feast of layered red sandstone that looks as though it has been poured like cake batter and frozen mid-swirl. Walk along the ridges of the Flame Danxia and the Water Danxia sections. The texture is surprisingly firm yet fragile—a reminder that you are walking on ancient seabeds. We’ve timed this visit to allow you to wander at your own pace along the wooden walkways. Watch how the color shifts from rusty orange to deep burgundy as clouds pass overhead. For those craving a taste of the high plateau, we might stop at a local farmer's stand near the valley (depending on season) to sample freshly roasted sweet potatoes or millet cakes—simple, honest food grown right in this resilient soil.

  • Visit Qiankun Bay (Yellow River Snake Curve), Drive to Hukou Waterfall Scenic Town
  • Hotel: 4+stars Hotel
  • Meals:Breakfast

We depart Yan'an and trace the course of the mighty Yellow River to Qiankun Bay (Heaven and Earth Bay). This area is the epitome of the Yellow River’s "Snake Curves," where the muddy, powerful waterway makes a dramatic 320-degree turn, forming a near-perfect Taiji symbol when viewed from above.

Experience Highlight: Standing on the observation deck, the scale is humbling. The river below is not a gentle stream; it’s a living, breathing dragon carving its way through the yellow earth. We take the cliffside path to the Yellow River Ancient Trail, a restored section of the old stone path used for centuries by boat trackers pulling vessels upstream. Feel the smooth, worn stones beneath your feet and imagine the rhythmic chants of the laborers who once called this canyon home. In the late afternoon, we arrive at Hukou Town, settling into a comfortable accommodation near the waterfall. The distant roar of the falls will be your lullaby tonight.

expand 2 expand 1
  • Witness the Mighty Hukou Waterfall (Best Viewpoint - Shanxi Side), Drive back to Xi'an, Tour Concludes with Hotel Stay
  • Hotel: None
  • Meals:Breakfast

This is the crescendo of your journey. We cross briefly to the Shanxi side of Hukou Waterfall, widely recognized as the superior vantage point for experiencing the full force of the Yellow River. While the Shaanxi side offers a side view, the Shanxi side places you directly at the bottom of the cauldron.

Experience Highlight: Watch as the vast width of the Yellow River is suddenly squeezed into a narrow stone chasm no more than 50 meters wide. The muddy yellow water explodes downward with the sound of thunder, sending a fine mist of "dragon's breath" high into the air, often creating vibrant rainbows in the morning sun. Stand close enough to feel the vibration in your chest and the cool spray on your face—this is the untamed soul of Chinese civilization. After this powerful finale, enjoy a leisurely lunch featuring Yellow River Carp (a local freshwater specialty) before our private vehicle takes you on a scenic drive back to the starting point, Xi'an. You will be dropped off at your hotel in Xi'an for a final, comfortable night's rest, with memories of canyons and water etched firmly in your mind.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

As a solo traveler from Canada, I was nervous about navigating China alone—but this 11-day tour was PERFECT! From hiking the Great Wall at sunrise (Day 3) to gasping at the Terracotta Army (Day 5), every day delivered ‘pinch-me’ moments. The real showstopper? Zhangjiajie’s Avatar Mountains (Day 7)! Our guide made the stone pillars come alive with stories. Massive thanks for handling all logistics—bullet train tickets, entry passes, car! And the 4-star hotels surprised me.

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
