Q & A

Day 10 in Wangxian Valley is a self-guided exploration day with no guide. Will I miss out on anything important?
Not at all — Wangxian Valley is designed for independent exploration. The scenic area has a clear walking route: start at Qingyun Bridge, follow the path past Sanqing Waterfall, stroll along Zuixian Street for lunch, cross Lanyue Bridge, and brave the Glass Plank Road if you like. Signage is clear and the valley is compact enough that you can't get lost. The main reason for the self-guided format is that the real magic happens in the evening — when the lights come on and the valley transforms — so you're free to wander at your own pace and stay as late as you want. You'll be staying overnight inside the scenic area, which means you can enjoy the night views without worrying about departure times.
This tour includes the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon with "5 of 7 sky adventures." What are these activities and do I need to be very fit to enjoy them?
The 7 sky activities include options like zip-lining, a cliff slide, an aerial rope walk, a canyon cable car, a glass bridge walk, and similar attractions. Your ticket covers any 5 of the 7. None of them require special fitness — they're designed for general visitors and are more about fun than athletic ability. The zip-line and cliff slide are the most popular choices. If you're not into heights, you can skip the more thrilling ones and stick to the cable car, glass bridge walk, and the scenic canyon paths. Your guide will help you choose the 5 that best match your comfort level.
The tour ends with a free day in Shanghai (Day 13). Is this a waste of time, or is it genuinely useful?
It's genuinely useful — especially after 12 days of travel through 4 other cities. The free day serves two purposes. First, it gives you a chance to rest and explore Shanghai at your own pace — visit Xintiandi, browse Tianzifang's art studios, revisit a favorite food spot, or do some souvenir shopping. Second, it acts as a buffer against travel fatigue. Most travelers appreciate having a day where they don't need to follow a schedule. Shanghai is easy to explore independently with its excellent metro system, and your guide can recommend specific areas based on your interests. If you'd rather not go out, your hotel should be in a convenient location near shops and restaurants.
