We will drive about 70 kilometers to the Mutianyu section of the world-famous Great Wall. This section of the Great Wall is well-preserved and relatively unvisited, and it will surely live up to your expectations. The Mutianyu section of the Great Wall is one of the "longest Great Walls in China" and impresses visitors with its rich vegetation and magnificent natural scenery.

You will take an easy cable car up to the Great Wall. Next you will climb up to the city tower overlooking the majestic Great Wall, which will surely make your stay unforgettable. After the Great Wall tour, we will take the cable car down the mountain.

(Note: If you are physically fit, you can also choose to hike up and down the mountain to feel the sense of accomplishment of climbing to the top).

Afterwards, we will return to Beijing, stopping on the way to visit the Bird's Nest and the Water Cube from the outside in the Olympic Village.

Recommended Dinner

You can go to Quanjude and enjoy a meal of the famous Peking duck.

  • Tian'anmen Square--Forbidden City--Temple of Heaven--Jingshan Park--Hutongs

  • 4+ star hotels

  • Breakfast

After breakfast, we will reach the Tiananmen Square, one of the largest city squares in the world. Standing in the North Square, you can look up at the Tiananmen Tower, where Chairman Mao proclaimed the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Passing through Tiananmen Square, you will step into the Forbidden City, which is the largest and best-preserved palace in the world. Once the imperial palace of the Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty. It is a reflection of the highest architecture level in ancient China.

Next, you will visit the Temple of Heaven, a sacred site used in ancient times to worship the heavens and offer prayers for a bountiful harvest. Nowadays, it has become a lively place where locals perform traditional activities such as Tai Chi, dancing, kite flying and calligraphy. Stroll among the halls of the Temple of Heaven and feel the solemnity and mystery of ancient royalty.

After that, we will make a short trip to Jingshan Park, where you will have a panoramic view of the entire Forbidden City.

Next, we will visit the Hutongs and take a rickshaw ride through Beijing's hutongs. These alleys, made up of courtyards, epitomize life in old Beijing.

Q & A

The recommended Quanjude dinner and evening shows—are they included?
They’re optional experiences, not included in the base price. Your guide can help reserve a table or book show tickets; you pay directly. We can also bundle them into your package if you prefer everything settled upfront.
How physically demanding is this tour? Is it okay for older parents?
The Great Wall has a cable car, so no hard climbing is required. The Forbidden City and Temple of Heaven involve walking, but we can set a gentle pace. Your guide will adjust the rhythm to your family’s comfort.
Can we add an extra bed in the hotel room, or upgrade to a 5-star hotel?
Most 4-star hotels can add an extra bed for a supplement. Upgrading to a 5-star property is possible with advance notice—we’ll check availability and quote the difference.
What’s the weather like in Beijing? What should we pack?
Beijing has four distinct seasons—hot summer, cold winter, mild spring and autumn. Comfortable walking shoes are a must year-round. We’ll send a tailored packing list and forecast a week before your trip.
Day 2 covers five sites. Is it too rushed?
It’s a full day, but the private car minimizes transit time. Jingshan Park is a quick photo stop, and the hutong ride is relaxing. If you’d like a slower pace, we can skip or shorten any stop on the day.
Can the hutong rickshaw ride be extended or skipped?
Yes, both are fine. If you enjoy it, your guide can arrange a longer route. If you’d rather walk or skip it, no problem at all—just say the word.

Is there an entrance fee for Jingshan Park, and is it included in the tour?
Answered by intotravelchina | July 11,2025 13:30
Yes, there is an entrance fee for Jingshan Park, and it is included in our tour price. From Jingshan Park, you'll get a panoramic view of the entire Forbidden City, which is a truly magnificent sight. It's a great way to wrap up your visit to the Forbidden City area.
Asked by Grace Moll from Germany | July 11,2025 11:56
Is Quanjude the only option for dinner, or can we choose other restaurants?
Answered by intotravelchina | July 11,2025 13:18
Quanjude is a highly recommended option for enjoying the famous Peking duck, but it's not the only choice. After the tour activities, our guide can provide you with information about other local restaurants in the area. You can choose based on your personal preferences, whether you want more Chinese cuisine options or even international food.
Asked by Johnny from Australia | July 11,2025 11:55
How much time do we have to explore the Mutianyu Great Wall?
Answered by intotravelchina | July 11,2025 13:18
You'll have approximately 2 - 2.5 hours to explore the Mutianyu Great Wall. This gives you enough time to climb to the city tower, take in the breathtaking views, and wander along the wall at a leisurely pace. You can also take plenty of photos to capture the memories.
