How much walking and stair climbing is involved?
Expect around 20,000 steps over 2–3 hours of walking. The trail is mostly downhill with well-maintained paths, but there are plenty of stairs—wear good grip sneakers and consider bringing knee pads. If stairs are a concern, sedan chair carriers are available to carry you between spots.
When is the best time of year to visit?
September to October offers the most comfortable weather with temperatures between 19°C and 25°C (67–78°F). Summer (June–August) stays cool at 18–22°C (64–72°F)—perfect for escaping Chongqing’s heat. Just avoid Chinese public holidays if you can, and try to enter before 9 AM to beat the tour groups.
Is one day enough, or should I stay overnight?
One day covers the Three Natural Bridges and Longshuixia Gorge if you start early. But many travelers recommend staying overnight near Fairy Mountain (Xiannüshan) to avoid rushing and to visit the alpine grassland the next day.
