Q & A

How physically demanding is Mount Qingcheng, and is the cable car included?
It involves a lot of steep stairs—some travelers say the steps are so steep you'll “question your existence”. The good news: your tour includes the cable car, which cuts out the toughest climb, but you should still expect uneven and narrow paths that can get slippery when wet.
How is this panda base different from the main one in Chengdu?
The Dujiangyan Panda Base is much less crowded than Chengdu’s famous one and offers a more peaceful, intimate experience. It’s also the place where you can volunteer as a panda keeper—cleaning enclosures, preparing food, and observing pandas up close.
When is the best time of year for this tour?
September to October offers the most comfortable weather and beautiful autumn colors. Summer (July–September) is also pleasant with moderate temperatures, while winter is quieter but colder. Avoid Chinese national holidays if you can—the mountain gets packed.
Is this tour suitable for someone who’s not a serious hiker?
Yes—with the cable car and a private guide who sets the pace, most travelers can participate. Just wear comfortable walking shoes, bring water, and take it slow. The tour is not recommended for travelers with back problems or pregnant travelers, but for average fitness, it’s very doable.
