The Process and Materials Needed to Apply for the Tibet Entry Letter

Tibet attracts tourists from all over the world with its magnificent natural scenery and unique culture. Nevertheless, due to its special geographical location and sensitivity, foreigners entering Tibet need to apply for a Tibet Travel Permit, which is a necessary document to enter Tibet.

Below is the procedure and required documents for foreigners to apply for the Tibet Travel Permit.


1.Process:

Choosing a Compliant Travel AgencyForeign guests are unable to apply for the Tibet Entry Letter on their own, and need to apply through a qualified local travel agency in Tibet. The travel agency will arrange the itinerary, accommodation and transportation for the tourists and assist in completing the application.

Provide application materials: Submit the required materials to the travel agency in advance, including passport, Visa and other information, so that the travel agency can review and submit the application.

Application Submission and Approval: The travel agency will submit the application for the Letter of Entry to Tibet to the Tourism Bureau of the Tibet Autonomous Region. The approval time is usually 10 to 14 working days, so it is recommended to start the process at least one month in advance.

Receiving the Letter of Entry: After approval, the letter of entry will be sent to the applicant by the travel agency. You can use the electronic version of the Tibet Entry Letter to enter Tibet by train, while you need to bring the original Tibet Entry Letter with you when you fly.


2. Required Documents:

Scanned copy of passport: Provide a clear electronic copy of the passport information page to ensure the information is accurate.

Scanned copy of Chinese visa: Submit a scanned copy of a valid Chinese visa. If it is a group visa, you need to confirm the relevant requirements with the travel agency in advance.

Itinerary:Detailed plan including specific destinations, sightseeing spots, duration of stay in Tibet, etc., to be provided after discussion with the travel agency.

Hotel booking information: The travel agency usually arranges accommodation for tourists during the Tibet trip and submits relevant certificates.

Personal Information Form: Fill out an application form including basic information such as name, gender, nationality, occupation, contact information, etc.


3. Special Tips:

(1) If you plan to go to the border or special areas (such as Ali, Everest, etc.), you also need to apply for the border permit and military permit.

(2) The Tibet Entry Letter is only valid within Tibet and must be used in conjunction with the tour guide and vehicle arranged by the travel agency, foreign guests are not allowed to move freely.

(3) It is recommended to maintain good communication with the travel agency when applying to ensure that the information is complete and meets the requirements.
