Discover Chongqing: Tours Within and Around Chongqing 2026/2027

Chongqing, China’s “Mountain City,” is a dynamic metropolis where mist-clad peaks, spicy cuisine, and a revolutionary past converge. As the birthplace of China’s wartime capital during World War II, it offers a unique blend of gritty urban landscapes, historic landmarks, and breathtaking river views.
Historical Landmarks: Chongqing’s geography and history have shaped its iconic sites. The Hongya Cave, a labyrinthine riverside complex, showcases traditional Ba-Yu architecture with tiered wooden houses. Visit Jiefangbei (Liberation Monument), a towering symbol of Chongqing’s liberation in 1945 and now a bustling commercial hub. Explore the Dazu Rock Carvings, a UNESCO-listed masterpiece of Buddhist, Taoist, and Confucian sculptures dating back to the 7th century. For natural grandeur, hike the Wulong Karst Landscape, a UNESCO site featuring towering limestone pillars and the breathtaking Three Natural Bridges. Don’t miss the Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum, which chronicles the region’s history, or the Eling Park observation deck for panoramic views of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

As a solo traveler from Canada, I was nervous about navigating China alone—but this 11-day tour was PERFECT! From hiking the Great Wall at sunrise (Day 3) to gasping at the Terracotta Army (Day 5), every day delivered ‘pinch-me’ moments. The real showstopper? Zhangjiajie’s Avatar Mountains (Day 7)! Our guide made the stone pillars come alive with stories. Massive thanks for handling all logistics—bullet train tickets, entry passes, car! And the 4-star hotels surprised me.

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return. I'm genuinely confused about the visa situation
Do I need one for Chongqing specifically or does the transit visa cover it?
Answered by intotravelchina | April 29,2026 16:29
Chongqing is one of the cities eligible for the 144-hour transit visa-free policy, which allows you to stay in Chongqing and surrounding areas for up to six days without a full visa, provided you're transiting to a third country. For multi-city packages that include Chongqing, our advisors can confirm the exact visa requirements based on your nationality and full itinerary.
Answered by Omar Hassan | May 06,2026 14:06
Singapore passport no need visa for China up to 15 days. But my UK friend used the transit one for Chongqing and it was smooth. Just make sure your flight in and out is from different countries.

I'm booking the Yangtze cruise that starts in Chongqing
I'm booking the Yangtze cruise that starts in Chongqing. What should I actually do in the city before boarding? The page mentions pickup but I'd rather explore on my own.
Answered by intotravelchina | April 29,2026 11:16
Most cruises depart in the evening, so you have the afternoon free. Hongya Cave and the riverfront are close to the main pier area. The Three Gorges Museum near the People's Square is free and gives excellent context for the cruise ahead. Your guide can store luggage while you explore.

Il museo delle Tre Gole è perfetto prima della crociera. Così quando passi davvero davanti alle gole sai già cosa stai guardando. Ci ho messo un'ora e mezza ed era gratis.

How is public transportation in Chongqing?
Getting around Chongqing looks like a maze with all the hills and bridges. Is the metro easy to figure out or do I need to just use Didi everywhere?
Answered by intotravelchina | April 28,2026 09:57
The metro is modern, well-signed in English, and covers all major spots including the airport and Hongya Cave area. It's also incredibly cheap. Didi is a good backup for late nights or if you're tired of stairs. Get a metro map on your phone before you go.
Answered by Liam O'Dwyer | April 30,2026 13:18
Metro's dead handy actually. Signs in English and everything. Just be warned some stations have about eight escalators and you'll still end up on a hill. Didi's dirt cheap too so mix and match. I found the metro grand for most things.
