Discover Zhangjiajie: Tours Within and Around Zhangjiajie 2026/2027

Zhangjiajie, a city in Hunan Province, is a nature lover’s paradise renowned for its otherworldly sandstone peaks, lush forests, and breathtaking landscapes. As China’s first UNESCO World Natural Heritage site and the inspiration for the floating mountains in Avatar, it offers a surreal blend of geological wonders and outdoor adventure.
Natural Landmarks: Zhangjiajie’s landscape is dominated by towering quartzite pillars and mist-shrouded valleys. The Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, core of the Wulingyuan scenic area, features 3,000+ jagged peaks, including the iconic Southern Sky Column (Hallelujah Mountains). Ride the Bailong Elevator, the world’s tallest outdoor lift, to reach Yuanjiajie plateau for panoramic views. Explore Tianzi Mountain by cable car for sunrise vistas over the peaks, or hike the Golden Whip Stream through ancient cedar groves. For thrills, walk the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge, the longest and highest glass-bottomed bridge in the world. Don’t miss Tianmen Mountain, accessible via a 7.5km cable car ride, offering the adrenaline-pumping Skywalk cliffside path and the Heaven-Linking Avenue, a 99-bend mountain road.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

As a solo traveler from Canada, I was nervous about navigating China alone—but this 11-day tour was PERFECT! From hiking the Great Wall at sunrise (Day 3) to gasping at the Terracotta Army (Day 5), every day delivered ‘pinch-me’ moments. The real showstopper? Zhangjiajie’s Avatar Mountains (Day 7)! Our guide made the stone pillars come alive with stories. Massive thanks for handling all logistics—bullet train tickets, entry passes, car! And the 4-star hotels surprised me.

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return. Q & A

We're checking out of our Zhangjiajie hotel at noon but our flight to Xi'an isn't until 8pm.
The hotel won't hold our bags that long. What do we do with those six hours?
Answered by intotravelchina | May 06,2026 10:44
Your guide can store your luggage in the tour vehicle while you do a half-day activity. A popular option is Baofeng Lake, which is close to Wulingyuan and takes about two hours. You then have lunch and a relaxed drive to the airport. The timing fits perfectly for an 8pm departure.

Same situation. Our driver kept the bags in the car, we went to Baofeng Lake, had a slow lunch, then straight to airport. Reach there around 6pm, check in, no rush. The half day actually ended up being one of the nicest afternoons of the trip.

Voy en diciembre a Zhangjiajie
¿Los senderos de la Montaña Tianzi y el Parque Nacional se ponen con hielo o se puede caminar bien?
Answered by intotravelchina | May 06,2026 10:43
December brings occasional ice on shaded sections of the higher trails, especially Tianzi Mountain and Yuanjiajie. The main paths are treated, but early mornings can be slippery. Cable cars and the Bailong Elevator run normally. The reward is that December sees far fewer visitors and the peaks often rise above a sea of winter mist.

Answered by intotravelchina | May 06,2026 10:23
Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult on the glass bridge, and kids under 1.2 meters are free. There’s no strict minimum age, but staff may assess if a child seems too distressed. Your 8‑year‑old will have no issues. Soft shoe covers are provided for everyone to protect the glass surface.
Answered by Nurul Huda | May 07,2026 15:08
My nephew 7 years old went with us. He run across the glass like nothing, the rest of us adults were the ones holding the railing. The staff gave him smaller shoe covers and he thought it was some special privilege. No age check, just make sure he’s with you.
