09:00 - 10:15: Shancheng Alley & Steps
09:00 - 10:15: Shancheng Alley & Steps
The group gathers in central Yuzhong (Jiefangbei) and sets off along Shancheng Alley, one of Chongqing's oldest lanes, built in the Ming-Qing dynasties and once lit by lanterns as the "Sky Street." The 1,748-metre Shancheng Steps climb past cliff-hanging plank walkways, the French Ren'ai Hall and the Houlu residence, with sweeping views over the Yangtze. Visitors walk about one and a half hours, soaking in daily life of the mountain city.

10:30 - 11:30: White Elephant St. & House
10:30 - 11:30: White Elephant St. & House
The group heads to White Elephant Street, the once-prosperous "Wall Street of Chongqing" of the treaty-port era. At its heart stands the White Elephant House, a 24-storey, elevator-free block built in 1993 on a sheer hillside. From the 10th-floor sky corridor, visitors catch the Yangtze River Ropeway gliding past, with Raffles City behind — about one hour of strolling and photos. Please stay quiet: this is a residential community.
11:45 - 12:30: Dongshuimen City Wall Ruins
11:45 - 12:30: Dongshuimen City Wall Ruins
Just a short walk away stand the Dongshuimen City Wall Ruins, one of only two remaining ancient gates of old Chongqing, first built in the Ming dynasty and now a national key cultural relic. The weathered stone gate and ramparts look out over the rushing Yangtze and the modern bridge above. Visitors spend about 45 minutes along the wall, reading 800 years of history and photographing ancient stone against the skyline.
12:30 - 13:30: Lunch
12:30 - 13:30: Lunch
Lunch will be arranged at a local restaurant near the Jiefangbei area, featuring classic Chongqing flavours — including a steaming pot of local hotpot, Chongqing noodles (xiao mian), and sour-and-spicy rice noodles (suānlàfěn). The meal break lasts about one hour, giving the group a chance to rest before the afternoon walk.
13:45 - 14:45: Huguang Guild Hall
13:45 - 14:45: Huguang Guild Hall
After lunch, visitors step into the Huguang Guild Hall, the largest and best-preserved complex of ancient guild halls in any Chinese city centre. Built in the Qing dynasty, its Yuwang Palace, Qi'an and Guangdong Associations tell the epic of the "Huguang Fills Sichuan" migration. Carved beams, stage towers and thousands of carvings fill the courtyards. Visitors spend about one hour here. (Open 9:00-18:00, last entry 17:00; about 25-32 RMB.)
15:00 - 16:00: Luohan Temple
15:00 - 16:00: Luohan Temple
Continuing the walk, the group arrives at Luohan Temple, a national key Buddhist temple founded in the Northern Song dynasty, set right in the busy city centre. Its 500-Arhats hall, ancient rock-carved Buddha niches and the quiet Sutra Pavilion — where the monastery keeps its scriptures — bring a moment of calm and Zen. Visitors spend about one hour taking in the thousand-year-old temple. (Open 8:00-17:00, last entry 17:00; about 20 RMB.)
16:15 - 17:45: Free Time — Jiefangbei Area
Before nightfall, visitors enjoy about one and a half hours of free time in the Jiefangbei pedestrian area. Those who wish may take the Yangtze River Ropeway (about 20 RMB one way) for a short aerial crossing of the river — or simply browse the shops and cafes of the city's most vibrant commercial district. The guide will share the best photo spots and local snack tips during this leisurely break.
18:00 - 20:00: Hongyadong at Night
18:00 - 20:00: Hongyadong at Night
As darkness falls, the day ends at Hongyadong, Chongqing's most famous night view. Stacked like stilted houses on the cliff above the Jialing River, its 11 cascading floors glow golden once the lights come on, usually about 19:30-23:00. Visitors wander the lantern-lit alleys of food and craft stalls, then step onto the riverside platform to photograph the illuminated cliffs mirrored on the water. Dinner at local stalls; return around 20:00.

1-Day Chongqing Tour Beyond the Citywalk

Chongqing is a city you read in layers — the river, the cliff, the rooftops. The classic walk gives you the alleys; the rest gives you the skyline. Take the light rail through the building, go up the mountain for the two rivers at night, and let the old town keep its afternoon light. That is the mountain city, complete.

Watch the Monorail Thread Through a Building

At Liziba, Chongqing's Line 2 monorail runs through the sixth to eighth floors of a 19-story block. Trains arrive every few minutes; the platform below fills with cameras — impossible engineering, made daily.

Wander Ciqikou, the Thousand-Year River Town

Perched on the Jialing River, Ciqikou keeps its Ming-Qing lanes and teahouses. Porcelain once shipped from here; the town still smells of spice and sesame candy — a gentler, older face of Chongqing.

Find Creativity at Eling Art Factory

On a ridge above the city, Eling Art Factory turns a 1950s print plant into galleries and cafés. Rooftop terraces overlook the river; old machines meet new art — a photogenic pause.

A note on honesty: this guide extends the classic Chongqing one-day walk, which already covers Shancheng Alley, White Elephant House, the Dongshuimen city wall, Huguang Guild Hall, Luohan Temple, Jiefangbei, and Hongya Cave (Hongyadong) at night. The light rail through the building, Ciqikou, Nanshan, and Eling need extra time and transport — add them on a second day. The monorail ride, gondola, and temple tickets are not included in the standard walking-tour price.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

As a solo traveler from Canada, I was nervous about navigating China alone—but this 11-day tour was PERFECT! From hiking the Great Wall at sunrise (Day 3) to gasping at the Terracotta Army (Day 5), every day delivered ‘pinch-me’ moments. The real showstopper? Zhangjiajie’s Avatar Mountains (Day 7)! Our guide made the stone pillars come alive with stories. Massive thanks for handling all logistics—bullet train tickets, entry passes, car! And the 4-star hotels surprised me.

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
