The Hanging Temple(The Xuankong Temple), a breathtaking ancient building located between the cliffs of the mountain, is a unique temple that combines Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. Its original name "Xuankong Pavilion玄空阁" has a profound meaning, "Xuan玄" is taken from the Taoist doctrine, "Kong空" is derived from the Buddhist doctrine. Then because of its building seems to be hanging above the cliff, and "Hanging悬" and "Xuan玄" are the same sound in Chinese. So the name was changed to "Hanging Temple悬空寺".
The Hanging Temple has a history of more than 1500 years. The architecture of the Hanging Temple makes full use of the natural form of the cliffs and skillfully hangs the temple buildings on top of the cliffs, demonstrating the excellent wisdom and exquisite skills of the ancient craftsmen.
