Pingyao Ancient City

The Ancient City of Pingyao is one of the four best surviving ancient cities in China, with a history of more than 2,800 years. The ancient city reached its peak during the Ming and Qing dynasties, and still retains the basic features of the county town from the Ming and Qing dynasties, and is regarded as "the most complete surviving ancient city in China's Han ethnic area". Pingyao Ancient City is not only a National Famous Historical and Cultural City, but also a World Heritage Site, having been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997.

One of the most distinctive features of the ancient city of Pingyao is the city wall, which is about 12 meters high and made entirely of brick, with battlements and 72 enemy-viewing towers, symbolizing Confucius' 3,000 disciples and 72 sages. There is also a moat outside the city wall, which enhances the defense capability of the ancient city. Inside the ancient city, there is the "Ming and Qing Dynasty Street", a 400-meter ancient street dotted with many ancient stores, such as ticket agencies, dart bureaus, pawnshops, etc., showing the economic prosperity of the ancient city in those years.
