Historical Overview

Red Culture Hub: The 1935 Liupan Mountain Victory Monument commemorates Mao Zedong’s pivotal poem Qingpingle·Liupanshan, penned after the Long March.

Ancient Silk Road Link: Once a caravan route, the mountains’ passes connected dynasties from the Tang to the Ming.

Modern Conservation: Designated a national nature reserve in 1988 and a UNESCO biosphere reserve in 2013, it now safeguards 1,800+ plant species and 200+ wildlife varieties.

 

Structural Layout

The Liupan Mountains National Forest Park spans 678 km², organized into four zones:

Red Culture Zone:

Liupan Mountain Long March Memorial Hall (artifacts, dioramas, and Mao’s poem manuscript).

Willow Well Memorial Site (where the Red Army watered horses during the Long March).

Ecological Core Zone:

Old-growth forests of Picea wilsonii and Larix principis-rupprechtii.

Rare wildlife sanctuaries for golden eagles, forest musk deer, and Sichuan takins.

Scenic Recreation Zone:

Baiyunshan Summit (2,942m) with 360° panoramas.

Xiaonanxia Waterfall (60m cascade) and Lotus Lake (mirror-like alpine tarn).

Ethnic Culture Zone:Hui and DongXiang minority villages (traditional adobe architecture, embroidery workshops).

 

Major Attractions

Long March Memorial Hall: Interactive exhibits, including a 1:10 scale model of the Red Army’s 1935 encampment.

Baiyunshan Summit Trail: A 6km moderate hike through rhododendron thickets to a stone pavilion with Mao’s poem inscribed.

autumn Ginkgo Avenue: A 10km golden corridor of 1,000-year-old ginkgo trees (peak October).

Ethnic Homestays: Stay in cave dwellings or timber-frame cottages, sampling youmian (buckwheat noodles) and hand-pulled lamb.

Parking: ¥15/day at main entrances.

Avoid Crowds:

Peak Seasons: July–August (wildflowers), October (autumn foliage).

Quietest: May–June, September.

Weather:Summer: 15–25°C (pack rain gear).

Winter: -10–5°C (snowshoeing possible).

Essentials:Hiking boots (trails are rocky).

Binoculars (for wildlife spotting).

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

As a solo traveler from Canada, I was nervous about navigating China alone—but this 11-day tour was PERFECT! Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
