Mount Hua, located in Shaanxi Province, is one of China’s Five Great Mountains, renowned for its stunning, precipitous cliffs, ancient temples, and challenging hiking trails.

Mount Hua, the magnificent mountain known as the “No. 1 Mountain in the World”, is not only one of the five famous mountains in China, but also a national AAAAA tourist attraction, located in Huayin City, Shaanxi Province, attracting countless tourists to visit with its unique natural scenery and deep historical and cultural heritage.

Mount Hua is famous for its steepness, with more than 210 thrilling attractions such as the Long Sky Trail, Harrier's Flip, and Qianchizhuang, which fully demonstrate the beauty of Mount Hua's strange and dangerous. Mount Hua climbing and hiking is both a test of physical strength and challenging outdoor activities, the following is a detailed climbing and hiking strategy for your reference:

I. Pre-preparation

1. Equipment preparation

a. Shoes and socks: Wear suitable hiking shoes or sports shoes with air cushion, and prepare more than two pairs of socks to prevent excessive foot sweat.

b. Clothing: Prepare suitable clothing according to the season and weather changes, such as long-sleeved/short-sleeved T-shirts, long pants, punching jackets, raincoats and so on. Meanwhile, you should also prepare warm jackets or down jackets due to the low temperature at night in Huashan.

c. Backpack: Choose a backpack with a good backpacking system in order to carry necessary equipment and food.

d. Other equipment: hiking poles, gloves (labor gloves are good to avoid being scratched by chains), knee pads, sunscreen, hat, rain gear (disposable raincoats are good), digital devices (cameras, rechargeable batteries, watches, etc., but be aware that electronic payment is not yet popular in Mount Huashan, so you need to prepare more cash), water bottles and so on.


2. Physical preparation

a. Physical training: Conduct physical training in advance to enhance your cardiorespiratory fitness and physical strength.

b. Adaptation to high altitude: Although the altitude of Mount Hua is not high, you still need to pay attention to your physical condition during the climbing process to avoid overwork.


3. Route Planning

a. Classic Route: Starting from Yuquanyuan, you will pass through Wuliguan, Shaluoping, Qingkeping, Huixinshi and other attractions, and finally arrive at the North Peak (Yuntai Peak). This route has beautiful scenery along the way and is a classic choice for hiking and climbing.

b. Ropeway Route: For tourists with limited physical strength or time constraints, you can choose to take the bus from Huashan North Station to the Visitor Center, and then take the ropeway directly to North Peak or West Peak. On the ropeway, you can enjoy the strange peaks and magnificent scenery of Mount Hua.

Tickets may be tight during peak season, so it is recommended to book online in advance.


II. Recommended Itinerary

1. Hiking Route

a. Departure: Starting from Yuquanyuan, feel the mystery and depth of Taoist culture.

b. Challenge: After passing through Wuli Pass, the real hiking challenge begins. Along the way, you will need to pass through several steep steps and treacherous sections, such as Huixinshi.

c. Rest: Rest in the open areas such as Qingkeping and enjoy the magnificent panoramic view of Mount Hua from afar.

d. Finish: finally arrive at the North Peak (Yuntai Peak), overlooking the mountains and feeling the sense of accomplishment of conquering Mount Hua.


2. Cableway Route

a. Easy to go up the mountain: choose the ropeway route, easy to reach the main peak area of Mount Hua.

b. Sightseeing: Enjoy the beautiful scenery of Zhenyue Palace and Qinglongbei along the way.

c. Descending options: You can choose to descend from the original ropeway or try other routes according to your physical strength and time schedule.


III. Precautions

a. Safety first: During the climbing process, make sure to abide by the regulations of the scenic spot, wear non-slip shoes and do not act alone. Be extra careful when walking on steep sections and cliff edges.

b. Physical assessment: Hiking requires good physical support, please walk according to your own situation. If necessary, you can choose the ropeway to go up and down the mountain to save energy.

c. Environmental awareness: Maintain environmental hygiene and do not litter. Please take the garbage generated on the way up to the bottom of the mountain for disposal.

d. Weather Changes: The climate of Mount Hua is changeable, please pay attention to the weather forecast and take appropriate protective measures. In case of bad weather, you should seek help and adjust your travel plan in time.

e. Food and Water: It is recommended to bring enough high-calorie food and drinking water to replenish your energy. Meanwhile, you can bring some chocolate, Snickers, and other quick-energy food in case of emergencies. When shopping in the mountains, please note that prices may be high and choices limited.
