Chengdu's 9 lesser-known destinations

1. Xiaotong Alley

It is one of the many "slow life" alleys in Chengdu, and it is also a silhouette of Chengdu's leisurely and gentle temperament. In the fiery revolutionary years, Xiaotong Alley was the home of revolutionary workers. The factory that produced thermos bottles in Chengdu was built here in the 1970s. Today, this alley, which is less than 200 meters long, is full of characteristic coffee houses, water bars, grocery stores, etc.

2. People's Park

The street park where Chengdu people love to drink tea leisurely is a comprehensive garden that integrates cultural relics and leisure and entertainment. The park is composed of natural landscapes such as Jinshui Creek and Bonsai Garden. The various vegetation planted along the coast complement the stream. Goldfish Island and Yongju Tea House are integrated to create a cultural place for fish viewing and tea tasting. At present, there are more than ten kinds of precious goldfish on the island. The most famous in the park is Heming Tea House. Its style has not changed for nearly a hundred years. The standard configuration is bamboo chairs, low tables, and covered tea bowls. The best tea is "fragrant slices". Chengdu People's Park is a great choice to experience the leisurely life and slow time of the locals, so as to truly experience the lifestyle of the "leisure capital".

3. Lan Kwai Fong

Even if you don't go to Hong Kong, you can still feel the lights and wine of the "landmark bar" in Chengdu. Lan Kwai Fong, which integrates food, drink and entertainment, has a stylish decoration, a petty bourgeoisie atmosphere and an elegant environment. Different from the quietness during the day, Lan Kwai Fong after night is full of lights.

4. Huanhuaxi Park

There are not many tourists on weekdays, and the environment here is particularly quiet, so you can stroll slowly. Since ancient times, many talented literati and poets have been particularly fond of this place, and have left many poems that have been passed down through the ages. The poet Du Fu also completed the creation of hundreds of poems here. It can be seen how much inspiration this attraction gave him and left him with the most precious wealth.

5. Yulin Life Plaza

Although the night view here is not particularly beautiful, it is the best place to eat and drink. If you are near Sichuan University, you can come here after shopping. The whole square is very large, with a total of four floors, and each floor is full of food, drink and entertainment, such as bars, restaurants and board game rooms, etc., basically all locals come here to play.

6. Qintai Ancient Trail

This ancient trail is very historical and appeared as early as the Western Han Dynasty. It was to commemorate a very famous love story, that is, the love and hatred between Zhuo Wenjun and Sima Xiangru. At that time, they bought wine here, so it got this name. Now, the Qintai Ancient Trail we visited is full of Han Dynasty cultural elements wherever we go, as if we were traveling back to the prosperous dynasty. These elements include singing and dancing, banquets, and horse-drawn parades. There are rich performances every day, and we can slowly appreciate this niche attraction.

7. Bus No. 154

This is not a street, but the most famous specialty food bus in Chengdu. Every stop this bus passes will have a local restaurant with excellent reputation. These restaurants may not have a very good environment, but they are excellent in taste, so they are also called greasy spoon. In Chengdu, greasy spoon are very common, and most of them are old brands, famous for their delicious taste. Every stop this bus takes us through can encounter different delicacies.

8. Jinxiu Tianfu Tower

This tower is a radio and television tower, similar to The Oriental Pearl Tower. It is not only a transmitter for radio and television signals, but also a tourist attraction. Standing here, you can see the particularly shocking face of Chengdu, and the ticket price is reasonable. The biggest feature of this observation deck is that it has a high-altitude glass design, so when you stand on the observation deck hundreds of meters high, there is an extremely terrifying transparent glass below, which is a bit scary.

9. Fangsuo (Chengdu Taikoo Li)

It integrates bookstores, aesthetic life, coffee, exhibition space and fashion, and it is presented to you like a mysterious treasure base. Here you can hold a novel, order a cup of coffee, sit in a chair and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere of an afternoon. Life is impetuous, it is better to calm down, I hope we can "return to the era of more poetry reading".

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

As a solo traveler from Canada, I was nervous about navigating China alone—but this 11-day tour was PERFECT! From hiking the Great Wall at sunrise (Day 3) to gasping at the Terracotta Army (Day 5), every day delivered ‘pinch-me’ moments. The real showstopper? Zhangjiajie’s Avatar Mountains (Day 7)! Our guide made the stone pillars come alive with stories. Massive thanks for handling all logistics—bullet train tickets, entry passes, car! And the 4-star hotels surprised me.

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
