Guilin: A dreamlike journey intertwined with five senses

In the southern border of China, there lies a land favored by nature - Guilin. Here, the mountains are verdant, the waters are clear, the caves are peculiar, and the stones are beautiful. Every scenery seems like a carefully crafted artwork by nature. The charm of Guilin lies not only in its visual feast, but also in its ability to awaken your five senses in an all-round way, taking you on a dreamlike journey.

Vision: A Landscape Painting, dream-like and illusory

The mountains and waters of Guilin are a realistic portrayal of traditional Chinese ink paintings. Sailing down the river on a bamboo raft, following the winding emerald-colored path of the Lijiang River, one is surrounded by verdant mountains on both sides, their reflections in the water creating an illusion that the entire world is enveloped by this shade of green. The peaks vary in shape, some resembling a camel strolling, others an old man standing, and still others a shy maiden. Each mountain carries a beautiful legend, allowing visitors to appreciate the scenery while also experiencing the profound cultural heritage. As night falls, Guilin transforms into a different appearance. On the banks of the Yulong River in Yangshuo, a live-action performance titled "Impression Liu Sanjie" is being staged. The lights, music, dance, and natural scenery blend perfectly, with actors dancing gracefully on the water, like fairies emerging from a painting, making one feel as if they are in a dreamlike world.

Hearing: the sound of nature, the song of the soul

In Guilin, you can escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and immerse yourself in the purest sounds of nature. In the early morning, as the first rays of sunlight bathe the Lijiang River, you can hear the gentle rippling of bamboo rafts slicing through the water and the joyful chirping of birds in the distant mountains. As evening falls, strolling along Yangshuo's West Street, you can enjoy the melodious tunes of street performers playing and singing on their guitars. Those tunes seem to penetrate your soul, making you appreciate the beauty of life. In the rural areas of Guilin, you can also catch the laughter and joy of farmers as they toil away, a simple and unadulterated happiness that reveals the true essence of life.

Sense of smell: Fresh air, natural fragrance

The air in Guilin is refreshingly clean, a rarity in the city. There is no industrial pollution or car exhaust here, only lush greenery and fresh floral scents. Strolling through the streets and alleys of Guilin, you can smell the subtle fragrance of osmanthus, the city's official flower. Every autumn, the entire city is immersed in a sea of fragrance. In the countryside of Guilin, you can also smell the earthy scent and the aroma of rice, a gift from nature that evokes a sense of vibrant life and vitality.

Taste: Authentic cuisine, a feast for the palate

Guilin's cuisine is an indispensable part of this dreamy journey. Strolling through the streets and alleys of Guilin, you can see a variety of food stalls, among which Guilin rice noodles are the must-try. The smooth rice noodles, paired with delicious soup and rich ingredients, offer a delightful experience with every bite. Besides Guilin rice noodles, Guilin also boasts many other delicacies, such as beer fish, Lipu taro pork, and snail stuffing, each with its unique taste and preparation technique, leaving a lingering aftertaste.

Touch: Experience firsthand, feel nature

In Guilin, you can experience the charm of nature firsthand. Rent a bicycle and weave through the rural paths of Yangshuo, where you can feel the pleasant breeze on your face and the warmth of the sun on your body. Alternatively, you can participate in a rock climbing activity to challenge your limits and experience the sense of accomplishment from conquering nature. And in the karst caves of Guilin, you can also touch the variously shaped stalactites and stalagmites, feeling the marvelous workmanship of nature.

Guilin is a dreamy journey intertwined with the five senses. Here, you can appreciate the beautiful scenery with your eyes, listen to the sounds of nature with your ears, breathe in the fresh air with your nose, taste authentic cuisine with your mouth, and feel the charm of nature with your hands. If you are still looking for a place where you can relax and feel the beauty of life, then Guilin is definitely a good choice.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

As a solo traveler from Canada, I was nervous about navigating China alone—but this 11-day tour was PERFECT! From hiking the Great Wall at sunrise (Day 3) to gasping at the Terracotta Army (Day 5), every day delivered ‘pinch-me’ moments. The real showstopper? Zhangjiajie’s Avatar Mountains (Day 7)! Our guide made the stone pillars come alive with stories. Massive thanks for handling all logistics—bullet train tickets, entry passes, car! And the 4-star hotels surprised me.

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
