One-Day Xi'an Itinerary Guide

Start your day with a visit to the Terracotta Warriors, then explore the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. For lunch, enjoy Xi'an's famous dishes, followed by a walk or bike ride along the Xi'an City Wall. Experience the Muslim Quarter, then visit the Bell and Drum Towers. End with a Tang Dynasty Show or nighttime stroll.

Morning: The Terracotta Warriors

Start your day early with a visit to The Terracotta Army, one of China’s most renowned archaeological treasures. To get there, you can take a taxi, which takes about 1 hour from the city center, or use a local tour service. The Terracotta Army Museum features three main pits, with over 8,000 life-sized statues of warriors, horses, and chariots that were buried with Emperor Qin Shi Huang. Spend around 2-3 hours here, marveling at the intricate details and vast scale of the site. Don’t forget to stop by the museum shop for unique souvenirs related to the Terracotta Warriors.

Late Morning: Big Wild Goose Pagoda

After your visit to the Terracotta Army, head back to the city to explore the big wild goose pagoda, an ancient Buddhist structure that dates back to the Tang Dynasty. To get there, take a taxi or use public transport; the Big Wild Goose Pagoda is easily accessible by metro (Line 3). You can climb to the top of the pagoda for a panoramic view of Xi’an’s skyline and the surrounding gardens. The Da Ci'en Temple complex is also worth exploring, offering peaceful gardens and historical relics from the Tang Dynasty. Plan for around 1-1.5 hours here.

Lunch: Xi’an Traditional Cuisine

For lunch, indulge in Xi’an’s famous local cuisine. Head to Defachang or another popular restaurant to enjoy Xi'an dumplings (Jiaozi), Biang Biang Noodles, or the famous Yangrou Paomo (lamb soup with torn flatbread). Xi'an's flavors are rich and hearty, often featuring lamb, wheat noodles, and a variety of spices. If you're in the mood for street food, the Muslim Quarter offers plenty of stalls where you can try Roujiamo, often referred to as the "Chinese hamburger," filled with savory pork or lamb.

Afternoon: Xi’an City Wall

In the afternoon, visit the Xi'an ancient city wall, one of the best-preserved city walls in China. You can reach the City Wall by taxi or metro (Line 2 to Bell Tower Station). The wall, which dates back to the Ming Dynasty, offers an excellent opportunity to learn about the city’s military history while enjoying panoramic views of the modern city and ancient neighborhoods. You can walk or rent a bike to cycle along the 13.7-kilometer wall, which takes about 1-1.5 hours.

Late Afternoon: Muslim Quarter & Great Mosque

After exploring the City Wall, head over to the Muslim Quarter, located nearby, to experience Xi’an’s vibrant cultural blend. The Great Mosque, one of the largest in China, offers a fascinating mix of Islamic architecture with traditional Chinese elements. Walk around the bustling streets of the Muslim Quarter, where you can enjoy various snacks such as fried buns, lamb skewers, and pomegranate juice. The atmosphere here is lively, with street performers and vendors selling everything from souvenirs to local handicrafts. Spend around 1-1.5 hours in this vibrant part of the city.

Evening: Bell Tower & Drum Tower

In the evening, make your way to the Bell Tower and Drum Tower, two of Xi’an’s most iconic landmarks. Both structures are beautifully lit at night, offering a stunning view of the surrounding area. The Bell Tower was historically used to announce the time, and you can climb to the top to enjoy panoramic views of the city. It’s just a short walk to the Drum Tower, which served as a time-keeping device as well. This area is perfect for a leisurely stroll in the evening to admire the historical buildings and modern developments blending together.

Dinner: Enjoy Xi’an’s Night Food Scene

End your day with a traditional Xi'an dinner. If you’re craving more of the city’s famous dishes, consider heading back to the Muslim Quarter for a meal at one of the bustling street-side restaurants. Here, you can try local specialties like Yangrou Chuan (grilled lamb skewers) or Jia Mo (a type of flatbread stuffed with meat). Alternatively, you can enjoy a more relaxed dinner at a local restaurant, sampling other Xi'an delicacies like Shaanxi cold noodles or Steamed Lamb Leg.

Night: Nighttime Stroll or Tang Dynasty Show

For an unforgettable end to your day, take a night cruise along the Huaqing Hot Springs area or enjoy a Tang Dynasty Show. The Tang Dynasty Show is a performance that brings Xi'an's rich cultural history to life with music, dance, and vivid costumes from the Tang era. It's a great way to unwind after a busy day of sightseeing and immerse yourself in the ancient charm of Xi’an. Alternatively, enjoy a peaceful walk through the city’s streets, reflecting on the historical sites you’ve seen throughout the day.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
