Why is "Broken Bridge with Lingering Snow" included among the Ten Scenes of West Lake?

The Broken Bridge isn’t actually broken. After snowfall in winter, sunlight melts the snow on the bridge’s surface, revealing the brown bridge deck beneath. From a distance, this creates the illusion of a "broken" bridge. Combined with the legend of the White Snake (Bai Suzhen and Xu Xian), the spot has become a romantic landmark. The best viewing spot is at the eastern end of Bai Causeway (Bai Di), where the scene of "lingering snow on a seemingly broken bridge" is particularly enchanting during snowfall.
