Historical Overview
Founded in 1956 as the Changsha Zoo, the institution began with a modest collection of local wildlife. In 2008, a major relocation project commenced to create a sprawling, modern ecological park, reopening in 2010 as the Changsha Ecological Zoo. This transformation introduced advanced habitats, conservation programs, and educational facilities. Over the decades, the zoo has played a pivotal role in protecting endangered species, including the successful breeding of South China tigers and red pandas.
