how to play Chengdu with WeChat

Unlock new experiences of food and personalized travel

As a first-time traveler to Chengdu, I was pleasantly surprised to find that WeChat is not only a social tool, but also a "versatile assistant" for travelers. From planning itineraries, booking services to exploring cuisine, the WeChat ecosystem has deeply integrated into every detail of Chengdu travel. Here is my 6-day travelogue of Chengdu, taking you to experience how to use WeChat to explore this' Tianfu City '.

Day 1-2: Use WeChat to plan the historical journey between Dujiangyan Irrigation Project and Qingcheng Mountain

1. WeChat search: One click itinerary planning

Enter "Dujiangyan Irrigation Project Qingcheng Mountain One day Tour", pop up multiple strategies, and choose a route including transportation, tickets, and pit escape guide.

The applet "Ctrip" will book high-speed rail tickets (30 minutes from Chengdu to Dujiangyan Irrigation Project) to seamlessly connect with the scenic spot through train.

2. WeChat Pay: Smooth and unobstructed

Tickets for Dujiangyan Irrigation Project are 89 yuan, and those for Qingcheng Mountain are 90 yuan. There is no need to queue for WeChat code scanning payment.

Snack stalls in the scenic spot (such as "Zhong Dumplings" in Dujiangyan Irrigation Project) also support WeChat payment, and automatic exchange rate conversion is extremely convenient.

3. Travel mode: Record every step

Activate WeChat's' Travel Mode 'to record travel trajectories in real-time.

In front of the "Tianshi Cave", the birthplace of Taoism in Qingcheng Mountain, use WeChat to scan the code to listen to the voice explanation and experience MAX!

Experience highlights: standing on the Yuzui Water Diversion Dike in Dujiangyan Irrigation Project, witness how the water conservancy projects before 2000 "divide water by four or six", and marvel at the wisdom of the ancients!

Day 3: Giant panda Base+Sanxingdui, collision of cuteness and history

1. WeChat appointment: Avoid crowds

Buy tickets (58 yuan) on the official account "Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding" in advance, and choose the morning time to avoid the tour group.

Similarly, the Sanxingdui Museum allows visitors to directly enter the park by swiping the QR code after making a WeChat appointment.

2. Mini program "Ink Weather": Accurate Forecast

Upon discovering that it was cloudy that day, I abandoned the outdoor shooting of the bronze divine tree in Sanxingdui and headed straight to the indoor exhibition hall to admire the gold foil mask.

Experience highlight: Seeing cubs rolling around at the panda base made my heart melt! The bronze standing figures in Sanxingdui are mysterious and unfathomable, as if they have traveled back to ancient Shu.

Day 4: Kuanzhai Alley+Jinli, WeChat takes you to taste snacks thoroughly

1. Search for "Chengdu must eat snacks" on WeChat

Long Chao Shou, Fat Intestine Noodles, Three Cannon... Follow the recommended navigation to "Dongzikou Zhang Lao Er Cold Noodles Store", the sweet water surface is spicy with a hint of sweetness, and the taste is absolutely amazing!

2. Planting Grass in Moments: Hide Delicious Food

Encountered "Heji Egg Cake" in Kuanzhai Alley, with creamy and crispy filling, and locals queuing up for certification!

3. Private Companion: Unlock authentic experiences

Contact 'Chengdu Private Companion' through WeChat, and the photographer and tour guide will take me through Jinli Ancient Street, avoiding tourists and taking big photos!

Experience Highlights: Watching Sichuan Opera Face Changing at Jinli teahouse, sipping a bowl of tea with spicy rabbit head, and enjoying a satisfying meal!

Day 5: Personalized travel, WeChat customized CityWalk

1. Mini program "Tencent Maps": Plan the route from Wenshu Temple to Daci Temple and then to Wangping Street to avoid congestion.

2. official account "Chengdu CityWalk": download the customized route, visit the murals and art cafes in the old alleys.

3. WeChat Pay benefits: Scan the QR code at the popular store "Geometry Bookstore" on Wangping Street to receive discounts, and save 30% on souvenirs when buying.

Experience highlights: Free incense collection at Wenshu Monastery, experiencing Buddhist culture; Night tour of Wangping Street, listening to folk songs at the riverside bar, creating a lively atmosphere!

Day 6: Ultimate culinary experience, WeChat takes you to eat hotpot

1. "Ranking of Chengdu Hotpot" on the official account: Select the "Sichuan Great Xia" Chunxi Road Store, and queue up on WeChat to get the number, saving an hour of waiting.

2. Ordering strategy: "Seven ups and eight downs" of tripe, 10 seconds of duck intestine blanching, brain flower paired with ice soy milk to relieve spiciness.

3. Live streaming on social media: Upload a video of boiling butter red soup and receive over 100 likes!

Experience highlight: Successfully challenging duck intestines! Fresh, tender, and smooth, completely fall in love with the "spicy and numbing hit" of Chengdu hotpot!

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

As a solo traveler from Canada, I was nervous about navigating China alone—but this 11-day tour was PERFECT! From hiking the Great Wall at sunrise (Day 3) to gasping at the Terracotta Army (Day 5), every day delivered ‘pinch-me’ moments. The real showstopper? Zhangjiajie’s Avatar Mountains (Day 7)! Our guide made the stone pillars come alive with stories. Massive thanks for handling all logistics—bullet train tickets, entry passes, car! And the 4-star hotels surprised me.

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
