Practical Travel Guide: A Comprehensive Overview of Food, Clothing, Accommodation, and Transportation

1. Clothing Guide

  • North: Essential items include down jackets, thermal underwear, snow boots, hats, gloves, and scarves. Use hand warmers for your phone to prevent it from shutting down, and keep camera batteries warm.
  • South: Wear thin jackets, long-sleeved shirts, and long pants. As there may be a slight temperature difference between day and night, bring a thin sweater just in case.

2. Food Recommendations

  • North: Northeastern iron pot stew, Harbin red sausages, Madier ice cream (experience the "fire and ice" contrast), hot spring eggs on Changbai Mountain.
  • South: Chaozhou beef hotpot, Dali Xizhou baba (a local pancake), Tengchong earthen pot stew, Xishuangbanna Dai-style barbecue.

3. Accommodation Suggestions

  • North: Choose hotels or guesthouses near ski resorts for convenient access to skiing the next day. Consider staying in hot spring hotels on Changbai Mountain to enjoy snow valley hot springs.
  • South: In Dali, opt for seaside inns to enjoy the charm of facing the sea. In Chaozhou, choose guesthouses within the ancient city to experience the Lingnan style.

4. Transportation Tips

  • North: Due to snow accumulation on roads in winter, it's advisable to rent a car with snow tires or book a chartered car. As attractions are relatively far apart, plan your itinerary in advance.
  • South: Public transportation is well-developed. You can take high-speed trains or flights to major cities and then transfer to local transportation. In cities like Dali and Chaozhou, cycling or walking is a great way to explore.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

As a solo traveler from Canada, I was nervous about navigating China alone—but this 11-day tour was PERFECT! From hiking the Great Wall at sunrise (Day 3) to gasping at the Terracotta Army (Day 5), every day delivered ‘pinch-me’ moments. The real showstopper? Zhangjiajie’s Avatar Mountains (Day 7)! Our guide made the stone pillars come alive with stories. Massive thanks for handling all logistics—bullet train tickets, entry passes, car! And the 4-star hotels surprised me.

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
