About:

Where do locals go for real handicrafts?

I want to buy an actual good souvenir in Xi'an, not the plastic junk.

Shuyuanmen Street near the South Gate has calligraphy brushes, ink stones, and handmade paper cuts. For folk art, the lane behind the Drum Tower has small workshops making shadow puppets and embroidered cloth pieces. Skip the glossy tourist shops.

Shuyuanmen damn nice to walk also. I bought a hand carved name stamp with my Chinese name and the uncle engrave on the spot. Way better than the magnet nonsense.
