Shuimogou

Shuimogou (Water Mill Gully) is a scenic valley and cultural hub in Urumqi, Xinjiang, China, renowned for its lush forests, thermal springs, and historic Tibetan Buddhist temples. Nestled at the foot of the Bogda Peak, this 15-kilometer-long gully blends natural beauty with Uyghur and Tibetan heritage, offering hiking trails, mineral baths, and panoramic views of the Tianshan Mountains. Designated a "National AAAA-Level Tourist Attraction," it is a year-round destination for eco-tourism, spiritual retreats, and cultural exploration.

Historical Overview

1933: The "April 12 Incident" (a political upheaval in Xinjiang) led to the temple’s partial destruction; it was rebuilt in the 1980s.
