It’s convenient to have some RMB upon arrival for immediate expenses like
transportation, meals, or small purchases, especially if you arrive outside
of
normal banking hours or in less.
Bringing a small amount of RMB (e.g., 500-1000 RMB) for initial expenses can
be
practical. The exact amount will depend on your personal needs and travel
plans.
Mobile payment apps such as Alipay and WeChat Pay are very popular in China.
While
these can be linked to foreign bank accounts or cards, having cash on hand
can be
useful if you encounter issues with mobile payments.
Most foreign nationals are required to obtain a visa before traveling to
China. The
type of visa you need will depend on the purpose of your visit, such as
tourism,
business, or study.
China offers visa-free access to nationals from certain countries for short
visits
or specific purposes. As of the latest updates, here are some examples of
countries
with visa-free agreements for tourism or short stays:
·Citizens of Singapore: Visa-free for up to
15 days.
·Citizens of Japan and South Korea: Visa-free
for up
to 15 days.
·Citizens of some other countries: Certain
conditions
apply for specific regions or
special cases.
Visa-Free Entry: China has visa-free
agreements with
certain countries, allowing
citizens of these countries to enter China without a visa for a specified
period,
typically 15, 30, or 90 days, depending on the country. For example,
citizens of
Singapore, Japan, and Brunei can enter mainland China without a visa for up
to 15
days.
Transit Visa Exemption: Travelers transiting
through
specific Chinese cities on
their way to a third country can stay visa-free for a limited time, provided
they
have a valid visa and a ticket for onward travel. Cities like Beijing,
Shanghai, and
Guangzhou offer a 144-hour transit visa exemption, while cities like Chengdu
and
Xi'an offer a 72-hour exemption.
Hainan Visa-Free Policy: Certain
nationalities can
enter Hainan Island without a
visa for up to 30 days. This policy is designed to promote tourism to Hainan
and is
limited to the island.
Hong Kong and Macau Residents: If you are a
resident
of Hong Kong or Macau holding a
Chinese passport, you can enter mainland China without a visa using a
Mainland
Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macau Residents (commonly known as a "Home
Return
Permit").
